Vikings Get Head-Scratching FA Recommendation

In the 2026 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings got to work on their interior defensive line. The event saw them add Florida DT Caleb Banks at 18th overall, and Iowa State DT Domonique Orange with the 82nd overall pick.
These moves came on the heels of Minnesota letting Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave walk after both only spent one year with the team. The Vikings needed to add young talent to the rotation, and they did just that. Now, the theory is that Banks could be a legitimate pressure-generator up the middle, and that Orange will be your dirty-worker clogging holes and stopping the run. Add in pieces like Jalen Redmond and Levi Drake Rodriguez, and the rotation could be something special.
Even so, according to some people, it still might not be good enough, and the room might need more depth. That’s exactly what Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report touched on recently.
Vikings Urged to Sign FA DT DaQuan Jones

Knox recently wrote up a piece tying current free agents to their team-fits ahead of 2026 training camp. The Vikings made an appearance, being listed as a landing spot for DT DaQuan Jones.
“Jones would make a lot of sense for the Minnesota Vikings, who are hoping to leap back into NFC North contention this season. While much of the offseason focus has been on the looming QB battle between J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray, Minnesota faces the challenge of reloading its defensive front.
The Vikings parted with both Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Allen early this offseason. While they did sign Isaiahh Loudermilk while drafting Caleb Banks and Domonique Orange, adding DaQuan Jones would round out the defensive rotation while adding veteran leadership to the group.”
Knox also added that Jones will be 35 this December, and is coming off of a 2025 season where a calf injury cost him some time. Still, Jones is a solid-enough defender. You can never really ever have enough depth at any position on the field, but still, this feels like it could be overkill.
If the Vikings were to sign Jones, then there has to be an odd-man out. Names like Elijah Williams or Levi Drake Rodriguez are very intriguing, and appear as dudes that Flores likes pouring into. They likely aren’t going anywhere, so the focus would then shift to someone like Taki Taimani for a potential release. All of this is purely speculative, but something would have to give if the Vikings were to add yet another interior defensive lineman to their efforts.
Vikings Relying on Defensive Youth Movement

It feels unlikely that the Vikings will be adding anyone else to the interior defensive line, and more likely that they will roll with the room as assembled.
The Vikings defense is entering a new era, and its one where the youth are looking to take the spotlight. Not only are Banks and Orange in town now, but so are names like Jake Golday, Jakobe Thomas, and Charles Demmings. They may not be able to take the spotlight immediately, but they will be getting some of the best coaching on the planet under Brian Flores.
They may not have it all together immediately, but the Vikings certainly built a solid foundation for the defense going forward.
