Isaiah Rodgers Sr.’s Contract Status Flying Under the Radar
Back in March of 2025, the Minnesota Vikings signed Isaiah Rodgers Sr. to a 2-year/$15 million deal that guaranteed the corner $8 million at the least.
Rodgers had a solid first season with Minnesota in 2025, including the first-ever PFF “perfect game” in which he earned a 99.9 overall grade. Additionally, he earned a 99.3 coverage grade in that game against the Cincinnati Bengals, technically making it one of the best games that a defender has ever played in NFL history. PFF detailed the coverage grade for Rodgers, as it was the best coverage grade they had ever given out.
“Rodgers’ 99.3 PFF coverage grade on 26 coverage snaps also breaks the single-game record. It’s the best mark in the PFF era among those with at least 15 coverage snaps, easily topping Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick‘s 97.9 grade in 2014 (19 coverage snaps). No other player has logged even a 94.0 PFF coverage grade in a game through three weeks of the 2025 campaign.”
One game alone won’t earn you a new contract, especially when you just signed one months before the performance. Still, Rodgers had a solid year. Among qualifying corners, his 73.8 overall PFF grade on the season was 18th, and his 74.1 coverage grade was 20th.
Rodgers may have just signed, but we’re actually already approaching the time for him to get a new deal.
Isaiah Rodgers Sr. is Entering a Contract Year
Isaiah Rodgers Sr. has already played one of the two seasons on his contract with the Vikings. If you do some simple math, that makes 2026 the final year of his deal.
Traditionally, we’re used to seeing players get extensions as they head into the final year of their existing deal. The same could be said for Rodgers, but the Vikings don’t have to be in a rush. Minnesota will likely want to give Rodgers another couple of seasons in the Twin Cities, as he’s proven to be a decent corner and is still only 28 years old. Not a spring chicken, but not quite approaching the end of the road yet, either.
Another reason the Vikings would probably like to extend Rodgers is because of the current make-up of their corner room. Isaiah Rodgers Sr., Byron Murphy Jr., and James Pierre make up the corner room, and are a decent starting trio. However, they’re one injury away from having to put some very raw talent on the field.
Isaiah Rodgers Sr. is Vital to Vikings CB Room in 2026
While Isaiah Rodgers Sr. isn’t one of the best corners in the NFL or anything, he is still a massive cog in the Vikings’ defensive machine. Minnesota’s cornerback room is one injury away from having to get hopeful.
I’m the biggest Charles Demmings fan of the Vikings’ entire fanbase, but it’s incredibly hopeful to think he could step in to get starting reps and thrive immediately. Behind Demmings, it’s even less hopeful, as the depths of the corner room is made up completely of UDFAs like Dwight McGlothern and Zemaiah Vaughn.
It’s hard to predict what the future of the Vikings’ CB room is, but it’s clear they don’t exactly view the position as one that requires pouring heavy investments into. Extending Isaiah Rodgers Sr., who has thrived within the scheme, goes right along with that line of thinking.
