Purple Headlines of the Week: Risner Re-Signs, Vikings Rookie Signs Contract, Vikings Waive a Young O-Lineman

OTAs continued to roll along for the Minnesota Vikings this week.
With another week of the offseason behind us, we are continuing to inch closer to training camp, the preseason, and finally, the 2024 regular season. Here are all of the purple headlines that you may have missed over the past week.
Vikings Re-Sign Dalton Risner

After failing to land a lucrative long-term deal for the second consecutive offseason, Dalton Risner is headed back to Minnesota for the 2024 season. The veteran left guard initially joined the Vikings midseason last fall and ultimately made 11 starts for the team.
Before Risner re-signed, there were some questions as to who exactly the Vikings would play at the left guard position this fall. Blake Brandel seemed to make the most sense, but Ed Ingram switching over to the left guard spot couldn’t have been ruled out, either. Now, though, it appears that the mystery has been solved.
CB Khyree Jackson Inks Deal

The Minnesota Vikings made a total of seven selections during the 2024 NFL Draft. Heading into this week, four of those Vikings draft picks had signed rookie contracts, thus solidifying their status as Vikings for the summer and potentially years to come. On Tuesday evening, another rookie Viking officially signed his contract with the team: CB Khyree Jackson.
Jackson bounced between the NJCAA level for a couple years before catching on at Alabama during the 2021 season. The cornerback spent two seasons with the Crimson Tide before he transferred to Oregon in 2023. Now, he will hope to make an impact on the Vikings defense this season.
Vikings Waive Young Offensive Lineman

In order to bring back Dalton Risner, the Vikings had to free up a roster spot. That occurred on Friday when Minnesota opted to part ways with one of their undrafted free agents, Matthew Cindric.
Ultimately, it never truly seemed like Cindric had a chance at making the Vikings’ roster with all the veteran talent at that position, particularly with Risner now being back. The Vikings also signed Dan Feeney and brought back Blake Brandel, each of whom are versatile players with experience at multiple positions.
Minnesota also drafted Michael Jurgens in the seventh round, who played six seasons at Wake Forest. Hopefully, Cindric is able to catch on with a new team in the future.
