Let me reiterate that football really doesn’t matter at this point. What does matter is that Griff and his family get the help and support they need. In his press conference, Rick Spielman suggested that the Vikings are doing all they can to support Everson Griffen.

Spielman began by thanking the law enforcement and mental health professionals:

“First of all, I have to thank the law enforcement and how they handled the situation in such a professional manner,” Spielman said. “Our staff members, our mental health team, the way they responded, and they deserve a ton of credit for the help they provided today.”

He goes on to thank the Wilfs for the resources they’ve provided to support the players’ mental health:

“If your ownership group does not put this as a top priority in your organization and does not provide resources necessary to prevent a potential tragedy — that’s why we’re very blessed here with the Wilf family and at the Minnesota Vikings.”

Spielman understands that football is completely secondary right now, which is evident in how he spoke about Everson Griffen and his family, noting that “[t]heir family is our family.” He goes on:

“All I know is that when we got the call [Wednesday] morning, that we immediately – our number-one concern was because of Everson, Tiffany and his family, how much we love them, […] And how much they are a part of this family.”

All of us here as Purple PTSD wish Griff a full and speedy recovery.
