A Kwesi Era Trade Bust Lands a New Contract

Jalen Reagor is back in action.

The Kwesi era trade bust is looking to support the Miami Dolphins, a team that’s currently digesting a staggering $179.2 million in dead money. So, adding weaponry for cheap is the name of the game in Florida. Maybe the former 1st-Round selection can shine in the Miami sunshine in a way that he hasn’t in other stops.

The folks at the Associated Press covered the news.

“The Miami Dolphins signed Jalen Reagor on Tuesday to add another receiving option for new quarterback Malik Willis,” the article begins. Some biographical background: “Reagor, selected 21st overall by Philadelphia in 2020, should bolster Miami’s thin receiving room, which lost stars Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle amid a roster overhaul under new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan.”

Unfortunately for Jalen Reagor, he’s perhaps best known for being picked ahead of Justin Jefferson.

In what was a unique draft due to Covid, each team was picking in an isolated, online format. Cameras caught Rick Spielman laughing in real time when Philadelphia opted for Reagor instead of Jefferson, almost giddy to choose the LSU receiver.

Since then, Jefferson has become elite. He would get into the Hall of Fame if his career ended today. Meanwhile, Reagor is bouncing around the NFL trying to find a lasting home. Check out his current stops in the NFL:

  • Philadelphia Eagles (2020-2022)
  • Minnesota Vikings (2022-2023)
  • New England Patriots (2023-2024)
  • Los Angeles Chargers (2024-2025)
  • Miami Dolphins (2026)

Getting chosen at No. 21 and being a remarkably gifted athlete means ongoing chances to prove capable of helping a team win. After all, he’s still only 27. So far, Reagor hasn’t yet been able to settle in with a single team over a longer time period.

To get him to the Vikings, Adofo-Mensah had to forfeit reasonably beefy draft compensation. Minnesota shipped out a 5th and 7th. No doubt, that’s a long way off from being picked at No. 21, but the swap was nevertheless misguided. Reagor’s main value appeared to be as a punt returner and contender for WR3, but he did very little as the PR1 and settled in at WR4.

The Vikings moved on in August of 2023.

In June of 2026, the Minnesota Vikings are no longer in the Kwesi era. Nolan Teasley is the new sheriff in town, earning praise aplenty. He’s promising to build a roster that fulfills the vision of Minnesota’s coaching staff. Time will end up being the judge of how well he does in that effort.

The Vikings and Dolphins will play in Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season.
