Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell Sounds Like a Fan of New GM Nolan Teasley

On Wednesday, the Vikings held an introductory press conference for new GM Nolan Teasley, driven by Teasley himself with support from owner Mark Wilf.
Teasley was very clear on some goals and expectations he had for the Vikings going forward. His main goal, of course, was obvious: to bring a Super Bowl to the Twin Cities. Teasley preached about the talent on the roster, and how Minnesota will build upon the already-solid foundation that the team has had in place.
After the main press conference ended, the Vikings opened up Head Coach Kevin O’Connell to some questions on the side. O’Connell, hired by former General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in 2022, was reportedly part of the “committee” of strong voices that had a say in the next GM of the franchise. O’Connell spoke to the media and was quite complimentary of the new sheriff in town.
Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell Talks Nolan Teasley Hiring

Kevin O’Connell began his media availability by showering Nolan Teasley with praise.
“He absolutely was a phenomenal presence throughout the process that I felt fortunate to be a part of…to add somebody to our leadership in somebody that will lead our football operations, in a way that I’m just so excited to support him. As he’s talked about supporting the head coach, I think it’s my job to make sure that I put Nolan in a great position to have success as our leader.”
O’Connell then insisted that Teasley has “all of the characteristics” that the Wilf Family was in search of in the next GM of the organization. This came right before he thanked the Wilfs for allowing him to be part of the strenuous process of finding the next man for the job.
“I do want to thank Mark, Zygi, and the Wilf Family. It felt like this process, getting a chance to be a part of the process, will only enhance Nolan and myself in our ability to start out fast. I feel like we’ve almost working together already, if that makes sense, just because of all of the dialogue and the process that was put on. I’m just so thankful to get to go through this process and come out with this outcome. And now, the real fun starts, which is the daily, minute-to-minute work together that is going to be gratifying, I just know it.“
This will be the first time Teasley and O’Connell will share the same NFL employer, though O’Connell revealed that he has known him for a while through Seahawks GM John Schneider.
Kevin O’Connell and Nolan Teasley Are Now the Faces of the Minnesota Vikings

At the beginning of the press conference, Mark Wilf shared that Nolan Teasley will have the final call on the Vikings’ 53-man roster at the end of the day, but will “heavily lean” on input from Kevin O’Connell and Rob Brzezinski. This could likely mean that from a play perspective, Teasley will strongly consider O’Connell’s input. Since Rob Brzezinski is the resident “cap guru”, he will have to work with him on the money side.
O’Connell and Teasley are now a supposed “power couple” in Minnesota, with support behind the scenes from Rob Brzezinski. Nolan Teasley could have quite the decision at the end of the year, however, depending on QB play.
Kevin O’Connell seems like he’s sitting upon a seat that gets warmer and warmer with every Vikings season that ends without a modicum of playoff success. This season, the QB play will likely determine that. If there is no success this season in terms of playoff performance, then Teasley will have to consider if O’Connell really is the guy to lead the way on the field after five seasons without a playoff win. That would be a hot-button topic next offseason, regardless if O’Connell had pull in getting Teasley hired or not.
