Vikings Podcast: Unpacking the Vikings Trades

Ah, yes, the Vikings and trades. It’s a topic that’s of significant interest to a lot of folks who follow the team, especially since Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has proven so adept of finding dance partners for a swap. The latest episode of Notes from the North – a humble Vikings podcast – ventures in Kwesi’s trade history as Minnesota’s GM.

Take a look at what Sizzlin’ Sam has to say: “On this week’s episode of Notes from the North, Kyle and Sam break down one of the articles written over at PurplePTSD in the Vikings Archive that contains a complete trade tracker of all the moves Kwesi has made.”

The Vikings Podcast Details and Reflections

Not every move has been a slam dunk. In fact, a few are teetering on clear-cut loss status.

Jalen Reagor stands out for a variety of reasons. He was already on people’s radar since he was taken just ahead of Justin Jefferson, one of the great errors in the history of the NFL Draft. Bringing him to Minnesota wasn’t necessarily a bad move, but the cost – a pair of late-round selections – doesn’t appear to be worth it. Maybe another year will change how we view the deal, but things don’t look promising at the moment.

One trade that does look really good is the T.J. Hockenson swap. True, the deal involved yet another deal with the Detroit Lions, an approach that always carries risk since a division rival may be getting better. Right now, things favor the Vikings, though. The TE1 takes the heat off of Jefferson, a much-needed contribution to the purple offense.

NFL: NFC Wild Card Round-New York Giants at Minnesota Vikings

A whopping 9 trades have occurred in a pair of drafts. The GM has favored the AFC over the NFC but he isn’t shy about doing business with teams that are viewed as more direct competition, as the trio of NFC North swaps prove.

Stepping back to assess all of the GM’s deals helps us to see trends and tendencies. As a result, we have a better shot at predicting what the next move could be. In the end, we need to remember that we’re dealing with plenty of uncertainty, but the trade history is still instructive.
