Minnesota Vikings training camp begins Sunday, with rookies reporting on July 23rd and veterans following two days later. Before that, though, an off-the-field matter has come up for the Vikings as rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison was reportedly charged with reckless driving.

On Thursday, SI.com’s Bill Enright tweeted, “Vikings rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison was charged with reckless driving last night. Was doing 140 MPH in his Lambo. Source: Minnesota State Patrol.”

These are dangerous speeds on any public road, and considering the Vikings used the 23rd overall pick in this spring’s draft on Addison, if this were to delay his arrival to camp, it would put him behind the 8-ball on the field on top of the off-the-field charges. Addison did not appear at Vikings mandatory minicamp, either, as he was rehabbing a minor injury during that time.

Kevin Seifert of ESPN also confirmed the report by tweeting, “Confirmed: Vikings rookie WR Jordan Addison was cited just after 3 a.m. today for speed and reckless driving in St. Paul. He was driving 140 MPH in a 55, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. More to come.”

Shortly thereafter, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted a statement from the Minnesota Vikings that said, “We are aware of last night’s traffic incident involving Jordan Addison and are gathering additional information.”

This is not the first time during the offseason that a Vikings player has been hit with such a charge. A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Vikings offensive lineman Oli Udoh was hit with a pair of traffic violation charges in May for driving 42 mph over the speed limit, going 97 in a 55-zone.

Two days later, he was stopped again for reckless driving, reportedly “weaving in and out of traffic at a high speed and driving in the carpool lane with no passenger.”

There is no word yet as to whether Addison’s arrival to camp will be delayed due to the charge, but we will have more info here at PurplePTSD as it is announced.
