Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and the Minnesota Vikings swung four trades during the training camp period in 2022.

Now, as the preseason comes to a close in 2023, the Vikings GM has made his first trade of this summer by sending OT Vederian Lowe to the New England Patriots.

Vikings Trade OT Vederian Lowe

The news was first reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, who tweeted, “Trade: #Vikings are trading OL Vederian Lowe to the #Patriots, per source. Lowe was a 6th-round pick last year by Minnesota.”

Lowe was a sixth-round pick by the Vikings in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he is the first Kwesi draft pick to leave the team.

The offensive tackle spent five seasons with the Illinois Fighting Illini. During his collegiate career, he made 51 starts on that offensive line. Heading into the 2022 Draft, he brought intrigue due to his great length and size (6’5″ and 314 pounds) along with some pretty good athleticism. He ran a 5.22 40-yard dash at the combine.

During his rookie season, Lowe made his only appearance with the offense in Week 18 against the Chicago Bears and played 33 snaps at left tackle.

Lowe played very well in this year’s preseason for the Vikings, particularly in the final two games, so this is a very interesting move by Minnesota. Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 reported that Minnesota got a sixth-round pick in return for the young offensive tackle.

With this trade, Minnesota will likely send Blake Brandel back to his natural tackle position. He spent much of training camp and the preseason playing at guard this summer. The Vikings also have Oli Udoh, who seems to have a safe spot on the roster after the trade.

Now, Lowe heads to New England where he joins a tackle room that includes Trent Brown, Riley Reiff, Calvin Anderson, Conor McDermott, Tyrone Wheatley, and Andrew Stueber. The Vikings will not play against the Patriots this year.
