Q: Can Nick Mullens provide a Case Keenum-like spark if called upon?
A: No, probably not. But he’s more game-ready than Kellen Mond or Sean Mannion — and that’s the important part.
Mullens is quasi-prolific for a QB2, averaging 243.1 passing yards per game in his career. He has started a whole season’s worth of games from 2018 to current.
The best part about Mullens? If Kirk Cousins goes down for a few games, the Vikings are not mandated to hand the ball to running backs as the only source of offense. Mullens can fling it; he’s done it before.
And how about the Vikings making a late-summer trade that doesn’t make you cringe?
Q: Why did the Vikings get rid of Albert Wilson after he caught two touchdowns versus the Raiders?
A: Wilson was stuck at the bottom of the WR depth chart when Minnesota released its first edition. The franchise evidently enjoyed younger wide receivers like Myron Mitchell, Jalen Nailor, and Trishton Jackson.
It is odd that Wilson performed well against the Raiders but is the first WR out the door after Thomas Hennigan. Yet, such is life in the NFL. The Vikings may have special teams plans for one of the young wideouts, something they didn’t envision for Wilson.
Wilson should find his way to another NFL roster before too long. He’s a decent veteran playmaker.
Q: Predict the Vikings four roster cuts on Tuesday.
A: Well, this is a crapshoot, so just know that a disclaimer. This prediction is merely speculative.
But we’ll go with some combination (four will be cut) of these players:
- Shaun Beyer (TE)
- Mike Brown (S)
- Bryant Koback (RB)
- William Kwenkeu (LB)
- Sean Mannion (QB)
- Timon Parris (OT)
The team also waived DT Jullian Taylor with an injury designation on Monday.
