Veteran Receiver, Defensive Lineman are The Next Two Vikings to be Cut

Earlier today, we learned that the Vikings traded for QB Nick Mullens. Not too long after, we learned of a couple more moves. Receiver Albert Wilson and defensive lineman Jullian Taylor have both been let go.

Part of the issue for both players is that they were competing for roster spots where there is a lot of depth.

Receiver is arguably the deepest, most talented position on the Vikings roster. Justin Jefferson is the team’s best player, and he’s one of the NFL’s best receivers. Behind him are Adam Thielen and K.J. Osborn. The trio combine to form one of the most intimidating, talented groups in the league. Very few teams will have the corner depth necessary to shut down these three. Ihmir Smith-Marsette looks like the WR4, and I still think Jalen Nailor will end up on the team.

Albert Wilson has seven years of experience in the NFL. He has been with both Kansas City and Miami. Perhaps his best statistical season was in 2017 when he had 42 catches for 554 yards. He impressed in his first preseason game given that he had two TDs with the Vikings.

For Taylor, the issue was similar. Dalvin Tomlinson, Armon Watts, and Harrison Phillips form a clear top 3 for the Vikings. I’m optimistic about Jaylen Twyman, and T.Y. McGill has done some really good things during the preseason. The team drafted Esezi Otomewo and James Lynch offers a lot of versatility. This competition made it challenging for Taylor to stick around.

Before coming to Minnesota, Taylor played for the 49ers. He was a seventh-round selection.

The upside of being released now is that there is more time to find work with another team, as the Tomasson tweet suggests. Hopefully, both Albert Wilson and Jullian Taylor find an opportunity to continue their NFL careers.
