According to Tom Pelissero, the Vikings have made a trade for a new quarterback. They’re bringing in Nick Mullens from the Las Vegas Raiders.

As the above tweet suggests, the compensation was a conditional seventh rounder. We’ll likely learn about the conditions in not too long.

The Vikings trade involves a quarterback who is only 27. He has played with San Francisco, Cleveland, and Las Vegas. He started 8 games in 2018, completing 64.2% of his passes as he threw 13 TDs and 10 INTs. That’s not too bad, folks. He’s a depth QB who was getting his first game time in the NFL. He had a 12.9 yards per completion average, a strong number.

For his career, he has a 64.6 completion percentage. He has thrown quite a few interceptions – 22 over his four years – but the team likely views him as an upgrade for their QB depth.

If I’m not mistaken, Mullens will bring a $1.444 million cap hit to the Vikings.

Keep an eye on how things develop, folks. The backup QB job just got a lot more interesting.
