The Minnesota Vikings preseason schedule is set. They’ll play three games, two on the road and then one at U.S. Bank Stadium.

To begin, they’ll take on Josh McDaniels, Derek Carr, and the Raiders. Since they’re in the AFC, Las Vegas seldom gets to matchup with Minnesota. The Vikings will thus get the opportunity to face a team that’s not too familiar. The game takes place on Sunday, August 14th at 3:25 CT.

The next game occurs at U.S. Bank Stadium on Saturday, August 20th at 6 CT. Kyle Shanahan’s 49ers are coming to town. In many ways, San Francisco is a team that Minnesota wants to become. Their offensive-minded head coach uses their fullback with great effectiveness. They do a great job of allowing their run game to help the passing game. Recently, they’ve had some tremendous pass rushers. Hopefully, Kevin O’Connell will be able to mimic some of Shanahan’s brilliance.

The final game on the Vikings preseason schedule takes place on Saturday, August 27th. Minnesota heads to Denver. George Paton – a former Vikings executive – is their GM. Former Vikings Mike Boone and Tom Compton will be in Broncos orange. The final preseason game, quite often, is one for the depth players. Even a lot of the main backups don’t get a ton of snaps. Players fighting for their spot on the roster will thus be looking to put some strong plays on tape.

The preseason schedule – unlike its regular season counterpart – isn’t the most exciting news, and yet it’s our first chance to see Vikings football. I, for one, am looking forward to the chance to see what the new coaching staff has been doing.
