Vikings Flurry of Moves Leaves Team Thin at Critical Positions

Just a quick one here, folks. The Minnesota Vikings have announced a flurry of moves leading up the Lions game. Check it out:

– Activated Michael Pierce from IR

– Waived Eddie Yarbrough

– Elevated Jake Bargas and Myles Dorn from practice squad

– Activated Kenny Willekes via COVID-19 replacement

– Downgraded Eric Kendricks to out

– Kene Nwangwu (illness) is now questionable

Obviously, losing Eric Kendricks is really tough news. He’s perhaps the most capable player on that defense, someone who is among the game’s best linebackers. He joins Dalvin Cook, Patrick Peterson, Christian Darrisaw, and Camryn Bynum as notable players who will miss the game (which is to say nothing of Danielle, Griff, and Irv).

The positive news is that Michael Pierce will be back, giving Zim some options along the defensive line.

If Anthony Barr needs to leave the game, the Vikings will be in trouble at LB. Nick Vigil was on the injury report earlier in the week, so he’s likely less than 100%, as well. The team may therefore need to lean on Ryan Connelly, Blake Lynch, and/or Troy Dye.

The potential loss of Kene Nwangwu would be difficult for the team. The special teams get a lot less dangerous without him. It would also mean an extra heavy workload for Alexander Mattison. C.J. Ham may need to get some more touches. Jake Bargas, the backup FB, moves reasonably well. He may end up getting snaps by necessity.

Finally, it’s good to see Kenny Willekes activated. He had a positive impact in the Baltimore game. The extra depth at DE is good to see.

Someday, this team will get close to full health. Let’s hope that occurs before the end of the 2021 season. The Lions game begins at noon C.T.
