Trade Thielen? Yeah. NO.
Thielen to Patriots? Yeah, NO.
Considering how catastrophically bad the 2020 Minnesota Vikings season has been thus far, it isn’t surprising that people in local and national media are looking at every single inch of the franchise to see how we got here, where to go from here and in the context of this article, how other teams may benefit from the remaining positive pieces the Vikings have.
That doesn’t mean that any of the above is valid or realistic. Especially when it comes to FS1 host Nick Wright, who questioned on the show “First Things First” whether the Vikings would trade ADAM THIELEN to the New England Patriots while answering a question about Odell Beckham Jr.
“I think quietly the Odell trade rumblings are coming back. While we were talking about the Browns (on Monday), I had a really trusted person text me and say that Odell could be available,” Wright said. “And now they didn’t connect him to the Patriots — I’m connecting him to the Patriots — (but) I’m gonna throw another name at you who probably seems more Patriot-esque as far as their history with skill-position guys. I wonder if Adam Thielen’s available.
That team (Minnesota) stinks. They need draft picks. He’s on a very reasonable contract.”
Now, MN he’s not entirely wrong. The Vikings do stink. But that doesn’t mean they’re going to be bad forever, unless they trade away the aspects of the team that are still very, very good. Thielen comprises one of those main aspects, with rookie Justin Jefferson exceeding expectations and showing that the Bills trade of Stefon Diggs was a rare example of a win-win trade in the NFL.
Especially when it comes to the Vikings and the Patriots, tempting fate by trading another superstar receiver to a team that seemingly always comes out ahead when they make a trade, would almost certainly end disastrously.
Beyond that, if there is one thing that could infuriate Vikings fans further in 2020 it’d be trading away the native son that is Adam Thielen of Detroit Lakes.
Granted, this is just the musing of some dude who happens to be on TV. So, if anything, I’m just complaining about next to nothing. That should explain to you how the season has gone thus far, though, so there is some validity in this piece after all!
