Thrice for Thor
Thor Nystrom has been putting out draft content fast and furious for Rotoworld. Previously, I discussed a couple of his mocks. He has released another, and this time he has the Vikings getting some major value at 12th overall.
Kyle Hamilton is regarded by many as the best player in the draft. The combination of his position and slow 40 time have led some prognosticators to speculate that he may slide down the board. In this mock, the Vikings get him at the 12th pick. Safety is among the lower priorities for Minnesota, and yet it’s hard to overlook someone who is so talented. He’d instantly give their secondary a major boost.
Many Vikings fans will be encouraged to see the Vikings go OL in the second round. They opt for Cole Strange at 46th. The Draft Network has him as their 91st prospect:
Cole Strange started 44 games during his time at Chattanooga with 41 of those coming at left guard, two at left tackle, and one at center. He does offer positional flexibility but I like him best at guard where his run blocking and football IQ are best on display. Strange is an aggressive but controlled blocker that has a nasty demeanor with good power. He’s a good athlete that showcases the ability to work laterally and hit blocks in space. He’s a people-mover in the run game and his motor always runs hot. In pass protection, his punch is firm and he has a stout anchor. He has terrific awareness and understands body positioning.
To close things off, Thor sends TE Greg Dulcich to the Vikings. Tight end is a sneaky need for Minnesota. Tyler Conklin signed a large contract to join the Jets. Irv Smith is coming off a serious injury. The plan is for Smith to be featured prominently as the TE1, but the injury history introduces some uncertainty. Bringing in some young talent to compete for the TE2 spot and earn some time when Smith needs a breather makes some sense.
Like all mock drafts, Thor’s succumbs to the same weakness: it’s mere conjecture. Of course, that is also the upside of these mocks. At this stage, it’s anyone’s guess how the Vikings will proceed. We can be reasonably certain that Minnesota’s leadership will be very interested in snagging Hamilton if he’s there at 12.
