The Purple Draft Rumors Continue to Swirl

Another day, another indication that the Vikings may be looking to jump back in the draft.

Indeed, we’ve already seen some rumblings suggesting that the 12 spot could be appealing to other teams. I’ve written about how a run on QBs in the top 10 could be advantageous to the Vikings. Seeing so many QBs go high would push top-tier talent down the board, giving Minnesota the option to either select a difference maker or – potentially – move down the board.

Well, it looks like there are a couple other teams who might be interested in hopping up:

As some of you know, I still dislike the Saints. When the Minneapolis Miracle occurred, I thought that I’d finally be able to put the Saints disdain behind me. That didn’t happen. My feelings aside, the Saints are an appealing team for several reasons, the foremost of which being those two mid-to-late teen selections. Doing business with New Orleans would give the Vikings the option of still targeting a high-end player while picking up more draft capital.

The Steelers are a little further down – 20th overall – so any deal with Pitt would need to involve more compensation heading in Minnesota’s direction.

My final word, folks, is that it’s the season for subterfuge and tomfoolery. What I mean is that the weeks leading up the draft commonly feature all kinds of stories and rumors that amount to nothing. Teams intentionally try to throw the league off their trail, hiding their true intentions to increase their likelihood of snagging their man. The Vikings are going to be involved in lots of draft rumors, but only a fraction can actually be true.
