Though they’ve been around since 1961, Minnesota has yet to snag that elusive Lombardi Trophy. Vikings fans have been subject to no shortage of heartbreak. For whatever it’s worth, Patrick Peterson recently offered his perspective on what needs to happen for the Vikings to finally climb to the top of Mount Champion.

Take a peak at the veteran corner offering his thoughts through his All Things Covered podcast:

Patrick Peterson identifies several things for the Vikings to accomplish. Getting greater health luck, having individual player accountability, winning road games, and executing the game plan are all identified as being crucial to success.

His focus rests in getting Minnesota to a point where the team can make a move for the Lombardi. In other words, it’s about getting oneself in a good position to make noise in the playoffs. To be able to do so, they’ll need to steal clutch road games and have the players fulfill their role. If successful, the Vikings will hopefully find themselves with some playoff games at U.S. Bank Stadium.

In many ways, the answer Peterson provides is an oversimplification. Winning on the road and executing the game plan are undoubtedly important, and yet the reality is that this season will feature several teams that can do these things. We have think that Kevin O’Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah are trying to develop solutions for beating even the teams that fulfill all the crucial steps Peterson identifies.

For the Minnesota Vikings to really succeed in 2022, Patrick Peterson – and many others – will need to shine. His ability to be a very good corner rather than merely solid will go a long way in getting this defense back into a good spot.
