Justin Jefferson’s role in Wisconsin’s shattered trophy

One of the most satisfying sports things to ever have happened occurred this week when Wisconsin Badgers QB Graham Mertz was celebrating their win over Wake Forest in the Duke Mayo Bowl (cool?). Mertz was dancing and holding the crystal trophy, which he subsequently dropped and destroyed.

You can see the video here:

Minnesota sports fans have no (additional) reason(s) to need to enjoy this, but it was especially great as the Badgers earned their Mayonnaise Bowl game berth by besting the Gophers. Also, Wisconsin sucks. So, there’s that.

What makes this even better is that Mertz was replicating Minnesota Vikings superstar rookie receiver Justin Jefferson’s viral “Griddy” dance as he dropped the trophy. Meaning, the curse of the Griddy is now here and we’ll all do our best to avoid it in 2021.

Then again, maybe Mertz thought there was some delicious Mayonnaise inside the trophy, so, who can blame him? Which, raises the thought that when it comes to what sounds like the whitest bowl game ever, it’s Wisconsin vs. Wake Forest in the Mayo Bowl that went viral because a white guy couldn’t dance.

Either way. Thank you, Jet. For everything.
