It’s the Vikings Most Formidable Opponent Yet…The Game of Thrones Season Finale

Throughout the history of time there have been some decisions that have proven to draw a line in the sand between certain groups of people. I’m talking democrats vs republicans, ketchup vs mayo, Chevy vs Ford sort of situation. Romantic relationships have ended, friendships have been broken and families have been torn apart for less divisive issues than these. Well, Sunday night here in the upper Midwest, we’re set for another throwdown. A battle that could cause a schism between those who share the same roof.

I’m talking Dalvin vs Davos, Baelish vs Bradford, Case vs Khaleesi and Theon vs Thielen…That’s right, Sunday night stands to square off the Minnesota Vikings head-to-head up against Game of Thrones. Worse yet, it’s not just a Vikings preseason game and it’s not just Game of Thrones, instead it’s the third and most important preseason game (nationally televised mind you) up against the Game of Thrones season 7 finale.

* Now might be the right time to throw out a SPOILER ALERT for those of you who are not fully up to speed with this season of Game of Thrones. Proceed at your own risk…

We’ll all be ready for the “BOOM” Sunday night at 7:00pm as the Vikings kick off their third preseason game in front of a national television audience against the San Francisco 49ers. We’re looking for Bradford to blossom, Cook to continue moving in the right direction and the offensive line to gel up front. Just one hour later, “Previously on Game of Thrones”. The nearly 80 minute season finale of season 7 hits the airwaves where we’ll be looking to see how they’ll stop the Zombie Ice Dragon? How will Cersei and Dany handle a face-to-face meeting? Will we finally get “CleganeBowl”?

Oh yeah, there will still be a football game going on…and I’ll be there. So what’s a guy to do?

The timing of it all pins the GOT finale up against the end of the first half of play and carries over into the second half. One would believe then that it will still be Vikings starters vs the Lannisters/Targaryens/Starks

**Insert sad face emoji here**

Even worse, it’s like the worst case scenario for a guy like me. I’ll be working the game for KFAN & PTSD. Mind you that 90% of what I do is online and during a football game in the 21st century, most of that work takes place on Twitter. I won’t even be able to avoid spoilers as people are reacting to what is sure to be an epic end to what has to be THE MOST EPIC season to date. In essence, I’ll be busy telling you all that Clemmings just got beat on the offensive line while Twitter will be telling me that Clegane just beat a White Walker with a pickaxe. It’s going to be nearly impossible to completely avoid spoilers to the point in time when I can get to the DVR and travel off to Westeros.

There is however another option. An unnamed co-host of mine and fellow fan of GOT will be meticulously taking notes on the game until 8:00pm when he plans to fire up HBO Now and stream GOT from the press box at U.S. Bank Stadium…funny he’ll be sitting RIGHT NEXT TO ME also so I won’t even be able to look off to my right for fear of spoilers.

We’ve all got questions on both sides. Some will be wondering who the starting center will be? Meanwhile I’m wondering where the White Walkers got those gigantic chains? Others will be wondering who will be wearing the crown in the NFC North? I’ll be wondering who will ultimately be sitting on the iron throne?

It’s going to be an interesting evening to say the least as we’ll be tip-toeing around spoilers while trying to get our work done.

So be honest, come 8:00pm on Sunday what will you be watching?
