Yesterday, we broke down the forecast for the Minnesota Vikings stars in fantasy football this weekend. Today, we move on to their opponent and host, the LA Chargers. This is another team whose roster is star-studded with talent despite some recent struggles. Can the Vikings take advantage of some of these struggles this weekend by taking top players out of the mix?

QB Justin Herbert- Start

Justin Herbert struggled in a couple recent games against the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots, but when he’s gone against some vulnerable defenses, he’s been outstanding in 2021. In recent games against the Chiefs, Raiders, Browns, and Eagles, Herbert threw for 1257 yards, 12 TDs, and 0 INTs.

Mike Zimmer is known around the league for his defensive mind, but the performances of his units the past couple seasons have not been on par with that reputation. Since coming off their bye, the Vikings are allowing nearly 300 passing yards per game, and their opponents have scored five TDs through the air in those two games. Herbert should be a strong candidate to have a top fantasy performance this week.

RB Austin Ekeler- Sit

The Chargers offense is spectacular, and Austin Ekeler has been a big part of that. However, in this recent stretch of games, it’s been a bit more difficult for the RB. Despite the Vikings struggles against the run this year, it feels like Ekeler will again be a limited part of LA’s production.

Much of Ekeler’s success this season has been seen as a receiver out of the backfield. Unfortunately for him, as long as Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr are on the field, it will be tough for him to find a meaningful impact in that role. It may be smart to find a replacement this week, especially in smaller leagues.

Keenan Allen- Start

With Austin Ekeler being held in check, it will be Keenan Allen’s day to thrive. Cam Dantzler has continued to struggle at CB in replacement of Patrick Peterson, and Bashaud Breeland is banged up going into this week.

As far as Allen’s recent weeks, he broke 100 yards last week for the first time since week 2. The week prior, he caught his second touchdown of the year. Production has been ramping up for the WR, and it should continue to do so this week.

Chargers D/ST- Start

Sorry to say it for all the Vikings fans out there, but this feels like a statement game for the Chargers. LA has been in bit of a rut the past couple weeks, and they will break out of it against Minnesota. This is a defense that has a propensity for forcing turnovers, and their defensive front led by Joey Bosa can get pressure on the QB and rack up sacks. Start the unit this week.
