Falling in Love With Justin Fields

I fell in love with a football player last Saturday. It goes against all of my better judgement, but Justin Fields is the quarterback for me. Everything about his game has me convinced we could be together forever.

It isn’t just me, either. Plenty of football fans have started to flock to the second year QB that’s pushing for a Heisman. He’s a game-changer that has even caught the eyes of current Minnesota Viking DT Michael Pierce.

He’s an amazing talent that uses his big arm and strong legs to beat the opposition into smithereens every single Saturday.

One of the only knocks on Fields is that he’s coming from Ohio State. Recent QBs from the university have struggled since getting to the league. Dwayne Haskins Jr. proved his draft-day slide, Braxton Miller isn’t in the league, and Cardale Jones played in the XFL last season. It’s not easy to ignore the fact that it’s been a difficult transition for most Ohio State QBs, but Fields will be the guy to reverse the normal. Here are a few reasons why.

His Stats

Fields has been Mr. efficient during his time in college. The quarterback’s 41 touchdowns and three interceptions are the godly stats of a star who doesn’t make many mistakes. His 67.2 completion percentage from last year narrowly beats out Trevor Lawrence’s 65.8. I didn’t mean to bring in Lawrence’s numbers, but it’s important to know what he’s being compared to.

His feel in the run/pass-option game is something that would be quite refreshing for a Vikings offense that has never had the personnel to run those plays. He added 10 touchdowns on the ground last year as a strong runner that looks solid against contact.

His Arm

He might be a kid, but he has a grown man’s arm. Fields can make any throw he wants, whenever he wants. Throwing on the move is one of his strong suits and he seems to showcase that every weekend in college. Especially on this accurate 8-yard touchdown.

Look at that beauty of a toss.

Fields throws a clean ball that would look terrific falling into the hands of Justin Jefferson. His ability to get outside of the pocket and create is continuously putting his arm strength on full display.

His Timing

Fields’ timing coming into the league could not be any better for his draft stock. The NFL is thriving on QBs that can improvise in the pocket and expand the play. Those who do it the best are winning football games. Justin Fields can improvise like a chameleon in a paint factory.

Getting a QB that changes the game with his legs is something every NFL franchise is looking into. With so many weapons spread throughout this Vikings offense, getting the guy who can do a little bit of everything could propel these guys to the moon.

A lot has to happen before the Vikings are on the clock next year. There’s a ton of different ways this could play out, but I think any future with Fields in it, is the future I want to be a part of.
