The Minnesota Vikings have announced that they have waived running back Roc Thomas. Thomas was arrested in January on felony drug charges after police found 143.28 grams of marijuana in Thomas’ home. After accepting a plea deal for felony drug possession charges, Thomas was set to serve a three game suspension to start the season.

The Vikings have decided to waive Thomas instead of retaining him through the suspension. With the roster spot that Thomas’ departure opened up, the Vikings have signed South Dakota State guard Tiano Pupungatoa.

Thomas had a strong preseason last year, include a 100 receiving yard game with two touchdowns against Denver. Thomas failed to see the field much in the regular season, only carrying the ball eight times for 30 yards.

Pupungatoa joins the team after a strong career at SDSU, earning third-team AP FCS All-American honors his senior year.
