Vikings Named a ‘Most Interesting’ Team of 2026

Most Vikings fans would agree that just about every single year, there’s some weird stuff going on the with the team. 2026 is looking to be no different, and there’s already been some weird stuff happen.

The Vikings fired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in late-January, about three weeks after every other team who cut bait with their GM hired the new guy. Minnesota went through the major transactional phases without a proper GM in place, naming Rob Brzezisnki the interim and letting him run the show through the draft. His temporary reign would end after the 2026 NFL Draft when the team hired Nolan Teasley for the full-time gig.

The team seems to have wacky stuff going on at any given time, yet they always manage to have solid years quite consistently. Hopes are high in the Twin Cities regarding the purple team this season, even with the weird offseason that we just had to trudge through over the last handful of months. A lot of that has to do with the acquisition of QB Kyler Murray, potentially the most “interesting” move throughout the entire NFL during the 2026 offseason.

Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report recently named the Vikings as one of the eight “most interesting teams in the NFL for the 2026 season.”

This is mainly about the team’s acquisition of Kyler Murray, which paves the way for an intriguing quarterback battle involving the 2019 No. 1 overall pick and third-year first-rounder J.J. McCarthy. Both face immense pressure to get it together for a team that contains arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, a great offensive line and a high-quality defense.

Kevin O’Connell’s squad is barely a year removed from a 14-win season and is built to win right now, but those major quarterback questions are likely to linger throughout the summer. Throw in the fact that Minnesota will be tested every week in the overwhelmingly strong NFC North, and you have a recipe for intrigue in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Many Vikings fans would probably push back on the “great offensive line” part of Gagnon’s explanation. Still, Minnesota without a doubt has a roster that could go deep in the playoffs if everything goes well. Of course, a lot of that depends on the QB play.

Last season, the Vikings went 9-8, even with some of the worst offensive play in the entire National Football League. Their QB play was downright embarrassing for the most part, and their rushing attack was basically non-existent. Still, the defense was great, and it carried them to a winning record, technically being the best team in the league to not earn a spot in the playoffs.

The Vikings have put out many signals that they want to commit a bit more attention to their rushing attack, and whether it’s J.J. McCarthy or Kyler Murray starting, it’s hard to think that the QB play could be worse than it was last year, barring injuries.

The Vikings feel like a team that could follow through on any prediction you make for them. I could see them going 12-5, and I could also see them going 7-10 and missing the playoffs. It is the Minnesota Vikings we’re talking about after all. However, as Gagnon mentions, the Vikings are heading into the “good half” of their year-on, year-off trend in terms of having a winning record. I guess we can take solace in knowing history repeats itself this time.
