The Minnesota Vikings are calling upon Dallas Turner to replace Jonathan Greenard as a starting edge rusher. Hopes are high for Turner, as he has flashed big-time potential in his limited action for the Vikings thus far.

The ripple effect in the room has put the Vikings in an interesting situation with their edge-rushing corps. Since Turner has been called up, Minnesota doesn’t have much depth behind him. Names like Bo Richter and Chaz Chambliss populate the room, but there’s a lot left to be desired.

This is why Alec Lewis of The Athletic has called for the Vikings to make a big signing at the position.

“The Vikings have around $13 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap, and some enticing free-agent edge rushers remain. The Vikings could wait until training camp to make a move. But from a competitiveness standpoint, supplementing this position group seems paramount.”

Vikings Have Options at Edge Rusher

There are a good number of free agent edge rushers still available out there for the Minnesota Vikings to consider for the depth of the room.

  • Joey Bosa
  • Haason Reddick
  • Jadeveon Clowney
  • Leonard Floyd
  • Von Miller
  • Cameron Jordan
  • Kyle Van Noy
  • Clelin Ferrell

The most attractive names here are naturally going to be the household names. Joey Bosa, Von Miller, Jadeveon Clowney, and Cameron Jordan all fall into this bucket.

We have already made the case for Clowney. He remains one of the most consistent edge rushers in the game, even at his advancing age. The best part of Clowney, is that you could get him cheap. Last season in Dallas, he played one a contract worth up to only $6 million.

The other two best options would likely be Joey Bosa and Von Miller. Bosa was actually named the NFL’s clutchest player in the 4th quarter and overtime by PFF with a 91.8 grade during those moments. Miller may not be who he used to be, but he still brought home 9 sacks in 2025 on the Washington Commanders.

Vikings Edge-Rushing Room Follows the Lead of Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner

Andrew Van Ginkel will likely be his usual game-wrecking self, so he is probably the safe bet to be good in 2026. Dallas Turner is the bigger question mark, but there’s reason to believe he could develop into a real problem for opposing offenses. We detailed his solid foundation earlier this week:

While his overall PFF grade was a middling 65.5, his pass-rushing grade was much more impressive. PFF stuck him with a 70.2 pass-rushing grade, placing 38th out of a 115 qualifying edge rushers. His 66.9 run defense grade also came 38th. Digging a little deeper, his 12.0% pass-rush win-rate was good for 54th in the NFL, right on pace for an EDGE2.

PFF credited Dallas Turner with 9 sacks in 2025, tied with the likes of Yaya Diaby, Jared Verse, Jadeveon Clowney, and a few other solid names. This 9 sacks led all Vikings pass-rushers on a defense that sacked the QB at the 5th-highest rate in the NFL. That number is impressive when you consider that Dallas Turner only played on 288 pass-rushing snaps, when someone like Jared Verse played 636 and got the same results at the end of the day.”

The best way to maximize Dallas Turner is to build a solid room around he and Van Ginkel. Minnesota is going to have to make a signing so they aren’t overloading their workloads, and to bring legitimacy to defensive reps where both can’t be on the field. That signing is likely coming later this offseason, but until then, we can only speculate who it could possibly be.
