The View from VT: Vikings QB Overhaul, KOC’s Hitman Trap, and Defensive Coach Gone

Vikings Territory works in partnership with PurplePTSD, similarly doing their utmost to put forth excellent Minnesota Vikings content. As a result, we promote what they have to offer in “The View from VT,” a weekly piece. Take a look at five of their articles from the past week.
The View from VT: January 3rd, 2026
1) The Vikings’ QB Overhaul Gets Underway with a Trio of Decisions: Minnesota has plenty of passers in the building (but what’s one more?). Up top are J.J. McCarthy alongside Max Brosmer. There’s then a veteran trio of Carson Wentz (injured), John Wolford, and Brett Rypien. Do any of those final three remain to compete in 2026?

2) Vikings Head Coach is Setting the Trap for Harrison Smith: Kevin O’Connell, like any reasonable person, comes away impressed by Harrison Smith. The safety isn’t elite but is still a good football player. Very good chance, folks, that the Packers game on Sunday is the last chance to see him play.
3) Vikings Coach Leaves for Open Defensive Coordinator Position: Part of the cost of doing business. Being successful means capturing the attention of other teams. DC Brian Flores is moving ahead without one of his assistants.

4) Kevin O’Connell Says the Magic Words for Week 18: Get the all-time great involved early. Allowing Justin Jefferson to comfortably clear 1,000 yards is the goal. In fact, seeing a Sunday where J.J. McCarthy and Jefferson feast is precisely what the purple doctor ordered. Now that would lead to some positive momentum.
5) Ex-Vikings QB Signs with Packers: The depth passer has been around the NFL in his still-young NFL career. In 2025, Mr. Ridder has seen his Vikings fate tied to McCarthy. The QB1 has been hurt at various points, leading to some opportunity to work in Minnesota before now venturing over to Green Bay.
