New Vikings GM Rob Brzezinski is clothing his vast ambition in modest words.

At the NFL Combine, the long-time executive got some airtime with the Minnesota media. He expressed his deep desire to see Minnesota capture a title, breaking the curse that has plagued the team for decades. Brzezinski, evidently, isn’t someone who is afraid to dream.

New Vikings GM Rob Brzezinski & A Desire for the SB

Anyone who doesn’t possess audacious ambition is unqualified for the top job in an NFL front office.

The league is ultra competitive. Those who get paid to work as pros in the NFL are people who work incredibly hard and who have a deep, ongoing desire to accomplish. Accordingly, a GM can’t be shy about chasing goals, even the wildest, most unlikely ones. What’s noteworthy about Brzezinski’s answer is that he’s putting the thoughts out there with consistent clarity and humility.

Tatum Everett of the Vikings Entertainment Network conducted an interview with Rob Brzezinski last week. Consider the chatter about chasing a Super Bowl, tacked on to the end of the interview: “Just want to be a small part of delivering that Lombardi to our very, very special fans.”

Start off with that first word: “just.”

Kicking off the Super Bowl dream is a quick quip — he repeated it fairly often in his recent interviews — that suggests Brzezinski sees himself as a pawn, not the queen. Reinforcing that idea is the notion of being a “small part” of winning a championship even if he’s a very important decision maker.

Next, there was the talk with Paul Allen and Pete Bercich. A similar idea gets passed along insofar as there’s humility in one hand and wild dreams in the other: “I just want to be a small part of helping deliver a championship to our fans. They’ve been waiting a really, really long time and it’s going to mean so much to them when it finally does happen. And it will.”

Toward the end of the same interview, Brzezinski reflects on his desire for his legacy with the franchise: “I want to be a small part of delivering a championship to our fans. I just try to envision what that would look like. I can see it.”

“I just want to be a small part of finally delivering that Lombardi,” Brzezinski concludes.

Key words that are repeated: “just,” “small,” and some sort of clear affirmation of where this thing is going if his dream becomes a reality (Lombardi, championship, and so on).

The Minnesota Vikings are currently working through financial issues, quarterback questions, whether to trade a top talent, and a variety of other tricky riddles. In other words, Rob Brzezinski is working through a ton of pivotal decisions that combine to impact whether Minnesota can do something special.

The new Vikings GM has much to sort out in the coming days. Just know that his small ambition is to play a part in bringing the Minnesota Vikings toward a Super Bowl.
