Former Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs was accused of disturbing violence. He has arrived at a legal resolution.

ESPN relays the news: “The four-time Pro Bowl wideout pleaded not guilty in February to a felony strangulation charge and a misdemeanor assault and battery charge stemming from the alleged dispute. The trial lasted only two days. The acquittal clears a path for Diggs’ return to the field, but he still could face discipline from the NFL.”

Some may have been dreaming of a Diggs reunion, but that now appears very unlikely.

Former San Francisco 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings is now a Minnesota Viking. Check out what Janik Eckardt had to say on the matter: “From 2021 through 2023, his production was fairly limited, with a total of 78 receptions for 963 yards and 7 touchdowns. Jennings then exploded in 2024, catching 77 passes for 975 yards and 6 scores. Last year, he recorded 55 catches for 643 yards and 9 touchdowns. In addition to his receiving prowess, Jennings brings size to Minnesota’s receiving room at 6’3″ and 212 lbs, allowing him to thrive as a blocker.”

Eckardt is bringing some good points to the forefront.

In Jennings, the Vikings are bringing somebody to town who fits the team more broadly. Being a beefy receiver who bulldozes defensive backs is going to help the broader collection of players to matchup, making Jennings a better option. Stefon Diggs, a fantastic pass catcher, isn’t known for ruggedness and size.

Being cleared of legal charges means that someone will call the veteran to help.

At 32, Diggs is past his prime, though he can still shake a corner out of his cleats. The receiver boasted 85 catches for 1,013 yards and 4 touchdowns while helping to push the team toward the Super Bowl. Purely from the on-the-field perspective, Diggs is excellent.

Teams will need to weigh the benefits of his on-field help with the broader cost of acquisition.

Right now, the Vikings are moving into rookie minicamp. That means the drafted talent and UDFA haul are working at TCO Performance Center. There’s then a broader cluster of talent, football players being added on a tryout basis. Some may even have some fascination to learn that a pair of arms have been included in the festivities (including a veteran quarterback).

Stefon Diggs will be looking to earn another contract in time for training camp. Doing so will ensure that he has the needed time to acclimate to another team ahead of his twelfth NFL season.
