NFL Writers Point to a Vikings Passer Getting Stolen Away

Proverbs — an Old Testament book of wisdom — claims that a collection of counsellors offers some safety. In other words, a pile of people all saying the same thing (provided a baseline level of insight, wisdom, reasonableness, and so on) means there’s some merit in the idea being expressed.
So, pay attention to what the NFL writers are saying about Carson Wentz.
The veteran quarterback makes some sense for Minnesota, but only in a particular job. Slotting him into the QB3 spot would be prudent, but that’s a situation of needing two-to-tango. Put differently, Wentz may not be content with that arrangement, instead preferring a situation where he could be the top backup. If so, then becoming a Jets passer may make sense.
NFL Writers on Carson Wentz & The Jets
Lately, the news in New York has circled around Geno Smith getting added. Part of what has made that news bizarre is that there has been a pivot toward looping Wentz into the mix.
On ESPN, Rich Cimini covers the Smith news. In fact, he does so while connecting the swap news to the Vikings. Part of what spurred action out of New York was concern about Minnesota landing Smith as a free agent, prompting a proactive add.

“If the Jets had waited for him to be released at 4 p.m. Wednesday,” Cimini writes, “they could’ve signed him for $1.3 million, the veterans minimum. But they would’ve faced competition for him. The Minnesota Vikings were known to be interested.”
Gotta give it to the Jets. Smart move on the decision to trade for Geno Smith.
Worth noting, as well, that Wentz could be the other passer. Check out the quick, seemingly offhand comment: “They’re expected to add a veteran backup, perhaps Carson Wentz.”
Moreover, social media has chimed-in on the issue. Connor Hughes comes to a similar conclusion.
The Hughes thought: “Sources: Now that the #Jets have their starter (Geno Smith), they will turn their attention to the No. 2 job. Carson Wentz is squarely in the mix there.”
Later on today, Carson Wentz will officially become a free agent. He will therefore be free — free agency — to choose where he signs. In all likelihood, there won’t be a chance to truly compete for a starter’s job. What could transpire, though, is going somewhere where he’s realistically capable of being a snap away from getting onto the field.
With the Vikings, Wentz would probably be the QB3, at best.

If Wentz walks, fans will remember him fondly. His time as a Viking was one of being crazy tough, almost to the point of foolishness and cruelty. He was in considerable pain while his body clearly wasn’t close to being fully healthy. Wentz nevertheless kept going back out there.
If the Jets move on from Justin Fields, the Vikings may consider adding him to shore up the passer depth.
Oddly enough, the Jets and Vikings have often walked hand-in-hand when it comes to the quarterback position. Seeing Wentz journey over to the AFC team would be another chapter in the weird story.
The widespread expectation is that Kyler Murray will be the new Vikings QB. But, to be sure, the NFL has been a chaotic place lately, so we’ll see how things develop.
