The Minnesota Vikings Already Employ a Rob Brzezinski Replacement

If, in the end, the decision is to promote Rob Brzezinski, then the Minnesota Vikings need to solve a new problem: who replaces the numbers nerd who had been leading the team’s salary cap machinations?

Quite possibly, the turn will be toward Emily Badis, who is already crunching numbers in the Twin Cities. She is currently serving as the Vikings’ Senior Manager of Football Administration. Listen closely to Minnesota’s pressers from these past few months and you’ll hear praise for the under-the-radar talent who is working in the front office.

The Minnesota Vikings: On Rob Brzezinski & Emily Badis

The team website offers a profile on Badis, who has been working for the Vikings for several years (while working in the NFL for a little while longer).

Some details to clarify what her workload looks like at present: “Emily Badis begins her fifth season with the Minnesota Vikings in 2025 and second as senior manager of football administration. In her role, she prepares player contracts and coordinates with agents for signatures, supports the executive vice president of football operations in player contract negotiations, salary cap management and team compliance of CBA and league rules, tracks player payroll and offseason program and training camp per diem and manages payment and reporting of paid player appearances.”

And then there’s some more insight about her past professional pursuits in the NFL.

“Prior to joining the Vikings,” the team website clarifies, “Badis worked as a salary cap and contracts analyst with the Atlanta Falcons from 2018-21, where she analyzed player and contract data to set markets for current and upcoming contract negotiations, created reports to assist in self-sufficiency for contracts and coaching departments, created ad-hoc reports for contract negotiations and free agency and analyzed CFA spending as well as provided recommendations to align with league projections.”

Alright, a few thoughts.

The Minnesota Vikings are a team that values what Emily Badis offers. That insistence is evident from within Rob Brzezinski’s reflections at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he referred to her as a “star.” Consequently, there’s a plausible fiction that’s there for the taking, a possible path forward if we’re willing to connect the purple dots.

The Vikings need a new GM and think highly of Brzezinski. The interviews conclude and then the expected occurs: Brzezinski is tossed into the top job on a full-time basis. So be it.

There’s then a vacancy for his job. Minnesota has said good things about Mrs. Badis in the past, praising her talents and abilities. Plus, there’s the basic reality that Minnesota has already promoted her, proof that the franchise sees the quality of her work and wants to put greater responsibility onto her shoulders.

On a short-term basis, the Vikings brought in external help to sort through these past few months. Brzezinski got tossed into the GM job for a few months while Matt Thomas — a veteran money guy who worked in Seattle for a long time — got added to help shepherd the team through free agency and the draft. Thomas has therefore worked closely with Badis over these past few months, but that was always going to be a short-term arrangement.

Did the Vikings see enough in Badis to feel confident in her abilities to jump into a more prominent role? Is she akin to a position coach who is now knocking on the door of becoming a coordinator? Maybe she’s the front office version of Grant Udinski.

Keep an eye on how things develop. Everyone is looking for the new hire at the general manager spot, which is sensible enough. Do note, though, that opting to promote Rob Brzezinski creates a different need, one where an in-house candidate may be well-positioned to seamlessly jump into another new opportunity.
