Former Vikings WR Remains Available to the Highest Bidder

Former Vikings WR Stefon Diggs went by many nicknames during his time in Minnesota. Former HC Mike Zimmer went with “Diggsy”, and many around the state coined the term “Miracle Man” after Diggs’ walk-off touchdown against the Saints in the 2017 Divisional Playoff round. After the 2019 season, every Vikings fan called him “gone”.

The Vikings would end up trading Stefon Diggs after the 2019 season after Diggs’ displeasure with his role in the offense became apparent. Minnesota shipped him off to Buffalo, and you could say they got a decent little return. The official trade went a little something like this:

Bills Received: WR Stefon Diggs, 2020 239th overall pick (CB Dane Jackson)

Vikings Received: 2020 22nd overall pick (WR Justin Jefferson), 2020 155th overall pick (traded to Chicago, capital used to take S Cam Bynum), 2020 201st pick (traded away), 2020 225th pick (DE Kenny Willekes), and a 2021 168th overall pick (TE Zach Davidson).

The highlight here, of course, is that the Vikings traded away Stefon Diggs for a clear upgrade in Justin Jefferson. They also benefited from some solid production from Cam Bynum for a couple of years as well. For Buffalo, Diggs was a solid receiver for a handful of years, and Dane Jackson also started a fair amount of games for the franchise.

Fast forward to 2026, and Stefon Diggs is a free agent and available to sign to the team that’s willing to pony up the cash.

Former Vikings WR Stefon Diggs Still Without a Job

Stefon Diggs made a couple of stops along the way between Buffalo and his current lack of employment. The Bills traded Diggs away to the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2024 6th rounder, 2025 2nd rounder, and 2025 5th rounder. He only appeared in 8 games for the Texans before tearing his ACL, and Houston didn’t want to re-up on him, making 2024 his only season with the team.

Most recently, Stefon Diggs was a member for the New England Patriots in 2025. He got just over 1,000 receiving yards 4 receiving touchdowns, acting as a key reason why the Pats made the Super Bowl, even though they eventually lost.

Diggs was notably in the news earlier this year for some legal issues. Accusations of strangulation and assault and battery stemming from a pay dispute between Diggs and his personal chef led to the chef taking Diggs to trial. The trial lasted only one day in May, and the jury found him not guilty of the alleged crimes.

Now, Diggs can be fully focused on football if he pleases. Many assume that he is a favorite to sign with his hometown Washington Commanders at some point this season, which could potentially fulfill one of his boyhood dreams to close out a storied career.

Vikings Could’ve Theoretically Reunited With Stefon Diggs Prior to Jauan Jennings Signing

The Vikings went into the 2026 offseason with their WR3 role wearing a caution sign. Jalen Nailor was due for a contract, and Minnesota didn’t want to pay up. Therefore, Nailor got his payday with the Las Vegas Raiders to the tune of roughly $35 million over 3 years.

This created a large chasm between the Vikings’ WR2 Jordan Addison and at-the-time assumed WR4 Tai Felton. It took a while, but Jauan Jennings would eventually sign with the Vikings well after the “Free Agency Frenzy” of early-mid March had concluded.

Perhaps, in a different universe, the Vikings and Stefon Diggs reunited. The front office is completely different from the one that Diggs grew untrustworthy of back in 2019, and he would’ve filled a WR3 role beautifully. Maybe it would’ve been a feel-good story for some, or possibly just another annoying headache to others. Whatever the case may be, Diggs is available to sign for whoever wants him.

It’s likely not a matter of if, but of when.
