Huge Ex-Viking Signs with Kevin O’Connell’s Old Team

Offensive tackle David Quessenberry has been through a ton on and off the field. As a result, teams should consider themselves lucky to employ him as a depth lineman.
Recently, word emerged that the ex-Viking is going to keep rolling with the Rams. Alongside a snappy emoji with a hand holding a pen, LA’s official social media offered the update: “We’ve re-signed OL David Quessenberry to one-year deal.”
Ex-Viking Re-Signs with Rams
In a lot of ways, the Rams are the team the Vikings are trying to become.
Most obvious is the recent Super Bowl. There’s then the near annual trip to the playoffs where the Rams threaten to represent the NFC. Making it work is a sizzling quarterback spot alongside some incredible drafting in recent seasons. The Rams aren’t without stain or flow, but that’s an impressive organization that is well ahead of the Vikings.

David Quessenberry, the Rams’ backup OT, has an imposing frame at 6’5″ and 310 pounds. Partner the build with being in the NFL since 2013 and there’s some appeal as a depth option. He has seen it all.
Originally, Quessenberry got into the league as the No. 176 selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, which arrives in the 6th Round. Some time playing with the Texans gave way to opportunities with the Titans, Bills, Vikings, and now the Rams.
Note, as well, that Quessenberry overcame cancer as a young man. Lindsey Young from the Vikings’ website: “Quessenberry was just 23 years old and entering his second season with the Houston Texans when he was diagnosed in 2014 with T-cell lymphoma, a rare and extremely aggressive variation of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He immediately began an aggressive treatment regimen, and in 2017 was officially declared cancer free.”
Further: “Nine years after his diagnosis, Quessenberry is happy and healthy and continuing to live his NFL dream – most recently joining the Vikings as a free agent in August.” Keep in mind that Young’s piece got published back in 2023.

As things stand, the Vikings are sorting through some offensive line uncertainty.
Most notable is the issue at center. Is starting center Ryan Kelly going to be shown the door? If so, is there enough confidence in Blake Brandel and Michael Jurgens to get the job done at center? Risky having just those two.
Plus, there are depth concerns at offensive tackle, Quessenberry’s spot.
Most notable has been the up-and-down recovery for LT1 Christian Darrisaw, who is a fringe elite talent when healthy. Prior to getting fired, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah acknowledged a need to shore up the depth at offensive tackle. Is that still in the cards with the change in the front office?
In theory, the large lads should be a strength in Minnesota. RT1 Brian O’Neill is excellent. Guards Donovan Jackson (LG1) and Will Fries (RG1) have the capacity for excellence, as well. A healthy Darrisaw pushes the group way higher while center will remain a question mark.

What does need to get addressed is the depth. Brandel, the do-it-all trenchman, can only do so much. Maybe the solution is Justin Skule, who was signed to replace David Quessenberry. Maybe the solution is someone else.
If you’re watching the Rams in 2026, keep an eye for Quessenberry, who wears the #68 jersey. He has been through much and overcome much, so he’s one of the more inspiring players in the league.
