A Collection of 3 Sneaky Vikings Schedule Details that Go Beyond the Obvious

The Vikings schedule details have generated plenty of discussion.

At the top of the ticket is a date with the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. Anytime the Packers show up, the Vikings (and those who follow the team) will make note. Likewise, the prime time games alongside the bye week get lots of attention, which is to say nothing of the international contest. Check out the other details, the sort of thing that you may have missed if going too quick.

3 Sneaky Vikings Schedule Details

Detail No. 1 — A Makeshift Bye Late

In Week 14, the Minnesota Vikings will be taking on the New England Patriots. Playing on Thursday Night Football is always difficult, but the small details are set up well for the Vikings.

The Week 13 game takes place at U.S. Bank Stadium. Being at home before going on the road for that Pats battle is superior to being on a multi-week road trip. Better yet, the Vikings have a home game in Week 15, meaning the TNF battle gets sandwiched in the comforts of home cooking.

Minnesota’s task is going to involve winning that TNF game (obviously). Doing so will allow for a more restful flight home and maybe some added rest through the weekend as the Vikings prepare for the final stretch. Three of the final four games of the year take place at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Detail No. 2 — Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s Revenge

Former GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was far from perfect. Still, getting fired was fairly surprising, mostly due to the timing.

He’s now employed by the 49ers. In Week 11, Adofo-Mensah’s new team is going to battle his old team. San Francisco will be hosting Minnesota, at least in a technical sense. What needs to be remembered, though, is that the game is taking place in Mexico, meaning that it’s neutral territory for Minnesota. Can the former top executive experience a win over his former team?

Detail No. 3 — A Natural Breaking Point

Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy (9) celebrates scoring a touchdown during a game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, Dec 21, 2025, East Rutherford, NJ, USA

In what appears to be (close to) an annual tradition, the Vikings have their bye in Week 6. Look for that date to be a logical time for when the team can pivot off the offseason QB decision or to double down.

Consider, for instance, a modest start to the 2026 regular season. Going 2-3 or worse would be a poor result given that those first five games all look winnable, especially since the toughest opponent — the Packers in Week 1 — takes place at the Bank. So, if Kyler Murray had been the starter but struggled in those weeks, then shifting to J.J. McCarthy should be reasonably easy. Or, perhaps, the inverse occurs with McCarthy stepping aside. The wild card? Handing the baton to Carson Wentz.

Look to that Week 6 bye as a nice moment to either affirm or repudiate the offseason decision at QB1.
