We’re here again to take a look at some more games on the Vikings’ 2025 schedule and storylines associated with each one. Of course, between this edition and the last one, we did skip Week 6, seeing as that will be the Vikings’ bye week for the year after their international double-header in Weeks 4 and 5.

That doesn’t mean Week 6 isn’t important for these Vikings, however; how they decide to attack their week off after two weeks overseas in Western Europe will directly impact how they come out of the gate for Week 7, and they’ll need to be well rested, because they’re facing off against the reigning, defending Super Bowl Champions of the world.

Week 7 – Eagles @ Vikings – Seeing What This Team Is Really Made Of

While the Vikings will still be tested in their first five games of the season, especially since four of them are stand-alone, nationally-televised contests, it’s still hard not to circle this contest against the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and think that this is where the Vikings will get their mettle tested.

The first couple of weeks could also provide us a glimpse into who the team is, and this game at U.S. Bank Stadium could be used as a confirmation of what we could possibly see from them in early 2025. It’s not to say that the Eagles couldn’t possibly have a Super Bowl hangover; they totally could. The Eagles aren’t an early-season team, as we saw when some fans were calling for the job of head coach Nick Sirianni early on in the 2024 season after a slightly rocky start to the year.

Still, if the Vikings come out on their home turf in this game and take it to the Birds, then there would be good reason to be confident in this team as they get deeper into the teeth of their schedule.

Week 8 – Vikings @ Chargers – McCarthy and Harbaugh Face Off in Primetime

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh talks to quarterback J.J. McCarthy before the start of the Rose Bowl vs. Alabama in Pasadena, California, on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.

We all know the praise that former Michigan Wolverines and current Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has showered Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy with. He absolutely loves the kid and was one of his biggest supporters during the 2024 NFL Draft process.

These two will meet for the first time on the professional stage as adversaries at SoFi Stadium in the City of Angels in a primetime showdown on Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video. Be prepared to hear plenty of mentions and see plenty of pictures of the two at Michigan together, where they ran the college football world during the 2023-2024 season that eventually culminated in a National Championship victory.

Week 9 – Vikings @ Lions – The Battle for the North Takes Off

Detroit Lions fans cheer against the Minnesota Vikings before a third down during the second half at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025.

Week 9 is the halfway point of the NFL season now that it’s an 18-week-long regular season, and that’s right about the time we find out who will be in the conversation regarding playoff-contending teams come year-end.

This matchup will serve that purpose, and even though it isn’t the end of the season, with there only being six divisional games to play for each team, this contest will be paramount by the time it’s time to paint the playoff picture. Both teams will be looking at this game as a must-win, seeing just how tight the race for the NFC North was in 2024 (until it wasn’t in Week 18 when the Vikings got embarrassed on national television.)

Week 10 – Ravens @ Vikings – Getting a Taste of the AFC’s Elite

The Vikings don’t get a chance to play the elite teams of the AFC all too often. They’ve only played the Chiefs once when Patrick Mahomes was playing, a game in which they lost 27-20 in 2023. They are 1-1 against the Allen-era Buffalo Bills, last playing them in 2022, and this game against the Ravens will only be the second time the Vikings have ever played against Lamar Jackson. Their last face-off came in Week 9 of 2021, so by this time, it will have been four years since the Vikings played the Ravens.

With how the schedule is formulated, we know these games really only happen once every four years, but it’s still nice to see how the Vikings match up against these AFC teams you hear so much about. The last time Minnesota beat a truly elite AFC club was the instant classic at Orchard Park against the Buffalo Bills in 2022, a game in which the Vikings prevailed in overtime 33-30.
