The Vikings have been pretty busy over these past couple of days. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is getting his house in order, bringing back players (mostly) within Minnesota’s orbit to futures deals.

The latest news involves a young corner with some tremendous size. Check out the word that arrived courtesy of the team’s official social media: “CB Nahshon Wright has signed a reserve/future free agent contract.”

Vikings Re-Add Nahshon Wright

Originally, Mr. Wright got into the NFL due to the Dallas Cowboys. The upside in his game largely stems from him being 6’4″ and weighing 200 pounds. In theory, Wright could be a matchup weapon against the NFL’s bully receivers.

The Texas team sunk a 3rd into the corner, plucking him out of the 2021 NFL Draft with the No. 99 selection. Safe to say, however, that Wright has struggled to live up to the expectations that accompany the draft placement. There’s a reason why the Cowboys were willing to move him to Minnesota in a trade.

Going back in Dallas’ direction was a different corner who struggled to live up to his draft slot: Andrew Booth Jr. Minnesota and Dallas thus swapped underachieving corners with the hope that a new set of circumstances could lead better play.

Wright spent the vast majority of the 2024 season on the Vikings’ practice squad. He got involved in a single, lonely game. Wright wasn’t seen on defense but he did get 15 special teams snaps.

Going forward, Nahshon Wright may need to prove that he can be a menace as a special teams player to earn a roster spot. His length points toward someone who could be a handful as a punt gunner. So, too, could he be someone who is helpful in kickoff coverage given the aforementioned length alongside his 4.46 speed.

In his career, Wright has picked up work in 33 games, snagging a trio of starts. Keep in mind, though, that he has only been involved in 269 defensive snaps while putting in 626 snaps on special teams.

Minnesota’s corner position needs a major infusion of talent. Part of the process involves doing precisely what Adofo-Mensah is doing: welcoming young, unproven talent into the building to compete throughout the offseason. The basic reality, though, is that Minnesota will need to add at least a couple of impact players to compete for the starting positions.

Nahshon Wright is 26.
