Grinding through the post-game press conferences can be asking a lot of fans, especially since a lot of people live busy lives. The fine folks at PurplePTSD get it.

Accordingly, consider 5 Vikings quotes to arrive after the dominant victory over the Bengals. There were no shortage of major plays and positive moments, so Kevin O’Connell alongside the players offered some thoughts while chatting with the media. More specifically, there are some ideas plucked out of the pressers for Coach O’Connell, Carson Wentz, Harrison Smith, and Josh Metellus. Check it out.

5 Vikings Quotes

#1 — Carson Wentz on the “Nasty” Defense

Quote: “[The defense scoring] makes it real nice early in a game like that to settle in, especially after we already kind of did go down and score. To see them do that, our defense is pretty nasty.”

Commentary: Simple, declarative, and to the point. Playing quarterback becomes significantly easier when Brian Flores’ crew is so dominant. At times, Wentz made poor decisions, needing to get rid of the football rather than take a sack. He did, however, have a strong day overall, a reality that was aided greatly by the defense being excellent.

#2 — Kevin O’Connell on The Vikings’ “Problem”

Quote: “[Isaiah Rodgers is] a problem when he’s got it, ’cause he’s got natural running instincts. The guys know when #2 catches that ball, that there’s going to be some, there’s reasons to go put a hat on somebody and block.”

Commentary: Picking off a pass is an excellent play. Having the poise to then turn on the jets to separate from the eleven on-field foes to scamper for a score is impressive stuff. Just an excellent play from Mr. Rodgers.

#3 — Harrison Smith on Being “Greedy”

Quote: “We’re all greedy in here, so everybody wants more.”

Commentary: Apparently, Rodgers was keen to make a third game-changing play, something Smith is reflecting on. Anytime a corner scores a pair of touchdowns — one off an interception, one off a fumble — people step away impressed. The greedy part rests in wanting the good times to keep rolling. In football, a player is far better off being greedy — wanting to make more plays — than in being content with what has recently been accomplished. The Vikings will hope that Rodgers’ greed turns into extra huge plays in the coming weeks.

#4 — Josh Metellus on Being Too “Tired” to Dance

Quote: “Just still trying to work on the choreography. When you run down so many times like that, you get tired, man, everybody’s not into it.”

Commentary: Mr. Metellus definitely has a sense of humor. Camryn Bynum has been dancing up a storm over with the Colts, leaving a major hole at the team’s choreographer position. Metellus thinks that the defense’s dancing (lack thereof, perhaps) is going to get sorted out. The issue today was merely that the team was gassed after so many turnovers.

#5 — Kevin O’Connell on Carson Wentz Being a “Point Guard”

Quote: “I do believe Carson Wentz, just a guy that came in, played point guard for us. Ran the show, was efficient. He made great decisions.”

Commentary: Hard not to feel like Carson Wentz is currently better equipped to be a successful NFL quarterback for the Vikings. Yes, it’s one game but what we saw was an example of contrasts. Mr. Wentz didn’t set the world on fire — he completed 60% of his passes for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns — but that’s precisely the point: being a steady point guard at quarterback is going to be good enough for Minnesota win in a lot of weeks.
