Vikings Further Fortify QB Position, Snag Yet Another Passer

Not satisfied with just the Sam Howell pickup? Fine. The Vikings further fortified the quarterback depth during undrafted free agency.
The word arrives courtesy of The NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Consider the update: “Former University of Minnesota QB Max Brosmer is staying home, signing with the #Vikings on a deal that includes $250,000 guaranteed, per source. So Kevin O’Connell gets two more young QBs in one day: Sam Howell in a trade, then Brosmer as an undrafted free agent.”
Vikings Further Fortify QB Depth, Sign Max Brosmer
Before the 2025 NFL Draft, the Vikings met with Max Brosmer. As a result, not a major surprise to see the team make a move for the UDFA.
Tyler Forness broke the news at the time: “Sources tell @TheDestinAdams and I the Vikings hosted Max Brosmer on a top 30 visit. Smart move bringing in Brosmer, who had a lot of intriguing tools Kevin O’Connell could develop. That likely explains him wearing Vikings gear at spring practice.”

The first thing to make note of — apart from the pre-draft interest — is the money.
The $250,000 in guaranteed cash is a nice payday for a UDFA. The suggestion is that other teams were in the mix to sign him, forcing the Vikings to hand over some decent money to keep him in Minnesota. In the past, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has handed out beefy UDFA deals, so this is merely the continuation of the trend. The GM will get his elbows up to snag the players he covets.
The next thing to note is his size. He stands at 6’2″ and is a sturdy 225 pounds. A bit taller may be ideal, but few could quibble with the quarterback’s build.
With the Gophers in 2024, Max Brosmer had a 66.5% completion rate alongside 2,828 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Not earth shattering stuff, but the accuracy is the number that really shines. Kevin O’Connell loves brainy, accurate quarterbacks.

Alongside a suggestion that he should go in the 6th or 7th, the NFL’s Lance Zierlein offered this assessment: “Confident, cerebral quarterback with average traits who proved he could play at the FBS level. Brosmer has an average arm but throws with anticipation and a sudden release. His ball placement needs work to become more accomplished against tight man coverage, but he can pick apart zone coverages with intermediate throws. He’s asked to read and attack coverages, and can do so when in rhythm, but his production nosedives when the pocket heats up and he’s forced to move. Brosmer’s lack of mobility and second-reaction playmaking hurts his chances, but he should be appealing to a play-action based offense utilizing levels route concepts.”
What was once just a pair of quarterbacks for the Vikings has now grown to four, doubling in size on Saturday alone. Consider how things are looking:
- QB1: J.J. McCarthy
- QB2: Sam Howell
- QB3: Brett Rypien
- QB4: Max Brosmer
Almost certainly, most Vikings fans will be encouraged about the QB setup now that a couple more passers have been tossed into the mix.
