The offseason features a lot of talk but not a ton of play. Sure, practices take place — there are even some preseason tilts — but the NFL news often gets shrunk down to words rather than passes, catches, tackles, and blocks.
In response, allow PurplePTSD to send along a humble piece covering the five strangest Vikings quotes of the offseason. Quite a pile of press conferences have stacked up over the past several months. On occasion, there have even been some unusual moments, ones that cause the ear to perk up a bit. Consider five examples below.
Vikings Quotes: Five Strange Ones from the ’25 Offseason
1) Donovan Jackson’s Cat

Quote: “His government name is — well, we call him Leo — but his government name is Leonardo DiCatrio” — Donovan Jackson
Commentary: Always great when players show off their personality. For Jackson, we see his humor shine through in the name that he has bestowed on his four-legged friend, a cat that has a wonderful pun for its name. Folks, having an animal can be helpful for an athlete. Win or lose, the animal is going to love its human; that can make a positive difference at the end of the day.
2) Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s Ark

Quote: “I want our team building to be like a Noah’s ark philosophy.” — Kwesi Adofo-Mensah
Commentary: The point is to have a two-deep roster, one where the starter is being supported by someone lower on the depth chart who is nevertheless an excellent player. If a starter goes down, then simply elevate the backup. Doing so keeps the operation moving forward without there being too large of a drop off.
3) Aaron Jones and Older Women

Quote: “Whoever came up with age, I feel like that’s just a number, it’s just a number. I’ve been saying that since I was a little kid trying to get older women.” — Aaron Jones
Commentary: In the NFL, getting to 30 is a bad omen for a running back. The position’s physical demands are such that there aren’t too many runners capable of shining as they leave their youthful 20s behind. Jones offered a quick quip on the issue, doing so by hearkening back to some of his previous romantic dalliances that evoked a chuckle from the media. He even shrugs his shoulders and puts his arms up, a sign that he’s being a bit playful while nevertheless revealing that he feels like he has a lot of good football ahead.
4) Kevin O’Connell as Elvis

Quote: “Kev, he’s a bit of a — if I’m like the, maybe like the dork Elvis, maybe Kev is like the QB Elvis type of guy.” — Kwesi Adofo-Mensah
Commentary: The answer is in response to the Aaron Rodgers rumors that were blistering hot for a little while in the Twin Cities. Kevin O’Connell did speak to Rodgers about playing in Minnesota. The GM was willing to step aside to allow the head coach to take the lead since O’Connell happens to be the “QB Elvis,” a way of saying that O’Connell is very good at working with quarterbacks.
5) Jonathan Allen’s Pass Rush Move

Quote: “On the field, the way that [Jonathan Allen] does his chop hump, I don’t know anybody who can stop it. Even though we’re just out here kind of jogging around, when he works that move, I’m definitely taking notes and we’re walking through that because I want to add that to my tool belt.” — Harrison Phillips
Commentary: In a lot of ways, defeating an offensive lineman can begin with the hand battle. Once someone like Christian Darrisaw or Brian O’Neill gets his mitts on a player, it’s game over. So, the “chop” portion of things is helpful; doing so gets the blocker’s hands away from sinking into the defender’s shoulder pads. The “hump” portion of things (presumably) refers to an uncoiling of the defender’s hips, exploding past the o-line on the way into the backfield. Picture a great shortstop fielding a ground ball; from his toes to his throw, it should all be one, clean motion. So, too, should a pass rusher execute their move — like a “chop hump” — in one smooth movement.
