Isaiah Rodgers Claps Back at Free Agency Report

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers (2) runs back an interception for a touchdown in the first quarter of the NFL Week 3 game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Cincinnati Bengals at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025.

New Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. has had quite the beginning to his Minnesota Vikings tenure in 2025. We all saw his legendary performance in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals, where he house-called two defensive touchdowns.

Rodgers has also been one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL in general to begin the season per PFF, as his overall grade is fifth in the league at 82.2, and his coverage grade is second at 86.1. His two forced fumbles on the season also lead the NFL’s cornerbacks.

Naturally, this has seemed to bother his former team and the Vikings’ next opponent, the Philadelphia Eagles. Understandably, I would probably be kind of annoyed too. Rodgers has been absolutely lighting up the NFL in his short Minnesota tenure, while Philadelphia’s entire operation is seemingly in freefall. A scoop recently came out regarding Rodgers and what could’ve been a return to the “City of Brotherly Love” earlier this offseason in the very early stages of NFL free agency.

Recently, a post was made by Eagles Nation on X via Eagles beat reporter Ed Kracz. The report claims that the reigning Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles were prepared to at least “match” what the Vikings were offering Rodgers when he hit the open market, but were never given the chance.

This would understandably be an irritating course of events for the Eagles, especially given Rodgers’ hot start and the Eagles’ current state in all phases of the game. The issue with the report, though, is that it apparently is incorrect according to Rodgers himself. Check out his response in a quote tweet to the Eagles Nation report:

According to Rodgers, this report is completely false, implying that the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t approach him with an offer that was competitive, or if they even did at all. It is also possible that the Eagles did offer to match, but Rodgers straight-up declined them. Seemingly, he made the right decision, as the Vikings have the best pass coverage defense in the NFL by EPA, and the Eagles are more middle-of-the-pack at 15th.

The contract that the Vikings ended up signing Isaiah Rodgers to is looking like an absolute bargain. His 2-year/$11 million deal already seems completely worth the money from Minnesota’s perspective. If Rodgers Sr. keeps up this level of production in the Twin Cities, we could be looking at a legitimate All-Pro level cornerback.

This will surely add a little bit of fuel to the fire for this Sunday’s matchup between the two franchises at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis while everyone focuses on whether J.J. McCarthy will get some run against what should be an elite defensive unit, or if it will be a revenge game for Carson Wentz against the team that drafted him while being employed while his boyhood favorite team.
