Safe to say that Cam Robinson is an imposing football player.

The towering former Vikings left tackle — someone who stands at 6’6″ while weighing 335 pounds — filled-in for the injured Christian Darrisaw in 2024, doing reasonably well before a tough playoff performance. Houston signed him back in free agency, but he’s now been tossed into the NFL’s trade rumors via a very public conversation.

Towering Former Viking Cam Robinson a Trade Target

First, the update that arrived courtesy of Adam Schefter.

“A name to watch today: Texans LT Cam Robinson, whom the team has discussed trading, per sources,” Schefter reports. “Rookie Aireontae Ersery has impressed this summer and looks ready to man the Texans’ left tackle position.”

Building off that update is fellow ESPN employee Field Yates, who writes, “A team interested in Robinson would have to take on a moderate cost: he would be due a maximum of $3.75M if he were traded to a new team. The Texans previously paid him a $8.75M signing bonus this offseason.”

Oh, and there’s even a compensatory picks angle (if that’s your thing). Check out what Nick Korte had to say on the matter: “Cam Robinson is a compensatory free agent whose contract is valued in the 5th round. Therefore, any team trading for him that has 2026 comp picks on the line should know that acquiring him will cancel out one of their comp picks.”

A quick recap if your head is spinning.

Cam Robinson played for the Vikings, getting brought to town following Darrisaw’s season-ending injury to help keep the season afloat. Back in March, Robinson became a Texan. In August, Houston has now pivoted toward a younger, cheaper option, creating the desire for a trade. An acquiring team wouldn’t need to pay much but they could see an incoming compensatory pick cancelled. Meanwhile, Minnesota will still see an extra draft pick tossed onto their huge pile.

Back in the 2017 NFL Draft, Cam Robinson got picked up by the Jaguars with the No. 34 selection. He played the entirety of his career in Jacksonville prior to getting traded away during the season. At the time, Minnesota could have turned to David Quessenberry or Walter Rouse to be the LT1, but Robinson was viewed as a better fit (in no small part due to the possibility of generating a comp pick for letting him walk).

Rather infamously, Sam Darnold got sacked a staggering 9 times in the playoffs. Robinson wasn’t blameless. PFF gave the left tackle a paltry 39.5 pass-blocking grade from that Rams game, suggesting that he allowed a staggering 12 pressures alongside a sack.

Mr. Robinson will arrive at his 30th birthday in October.
