It’s that time of year, again, when the leaves turn brilliant colors until tumbling to their autumnal death. (Please don’t consider that a metaphor for the Vikings’ 2025 season.) And each fall, the Vikings get a bye in their schedule, but we never take a week off here at Vikings Territory. So, it’s the Bye Week, which means it’s also VT’s Bye-ku Week.

If you have seen this annual tradition in the past, we spend the bye week writing and posting our Vikings Bye-kus. They are easy to write and fun to read (or vice versa), so after reading those below, take a run at one yourself and post it in the comments section.

Traditional haikus can take more than one format, but the one we use is three lines with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second, and five again in the third. And each Viking Bye-ku must include a reference to the natural world, such as sky, field, ground, spider, or sea seen below. (But if your Bye-ku doesn’t do that, we will take it anyway—so, post away!)

Have a great bye week dreaming about Purple victories and writing Bye-kus, and we will see you each week on the Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast. Skol!

Fall trees burning bright.
Spiral footballs fly the sky
Purple fans chant Skol!

Vikes 3/2 at bye
Not bad, but could be better
Winter is coming?

“Wentz” upon a time.
He wins one of two o’er seas.
“Fractured Fairytale?”

Vikes injured o-line.
Patched like fields seen from above.
Seamless versus Browns.

Reichard with no miss
Hits spyder cam crawling high
Perfect season stung.

JJ or Carson?
Keeps Vikes fans wringing their hands.
Each will stand his ground.

Wentz has bad shoulder
Further eval and intrigue.
Might rub dirt on it.

Jordan missed walk-thru.
Benched from the field for a Q.
Must learn team is key.

Vikes need Gink/Cash back.
They’ll bolster leaky run D,
That’s water through sand.

Fly Eagles are next.
Defense must crash birds to earth.
Stop Hurts and Saquon.
