The Minnesota Vikings had an eventful first day of training camp when the team decided to re-sign fan favorite Duke Shelley after a one-year absence. His stint during the 2022 season, in which he solidified the struggling cornerback room for a few weeks, hasn’t been forgotten. In addition to that, superstar left tackle Christian Darrisaw reached a four-year contract extension. Minnesota’s passer can rely on him to protect their blindside for six more seasons.

Other teams also try to improve their rosters, with training camp now underway for all 32 organizations. Cam Akers recently signed with the Houston Texans in a surprise turnaround, as he was expected to return to Minnesota.

He will be joined in his new division by another former Viking. Infamous 2016 first-rounder Laquon Treadwell signed with the Indianapolis Colts, the team announced on Wednesday afternoon:

The Colts are Treadwell’s eighth employer in the NFL.

His professional career began with the Vikings, who needed a wideout and selected the Ole Miss standout in the first round with the 23rd overall pick. In 2016, his debut season, Treadwell caught one pass for 15 yards. His role expanded as a sophomore, but his 200 yards can hardly be titled first-round caliber. His first touchdown grab came in 2018. Through four campaigns with the Vikings, Treadwell registered 65 receptions for 701 yards and two touchdowns in the shadow of Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen.

The Vikings let him walk in 2020, and his journeyman career kicked off. His next stint was with the Falcons, but he was released before the 2020 season began and stashed on the practice squad. Later in the year, the Falcons elevated him to the 53-man roster, but he would only catch six passes in five games.

Once again, Treadwell was a free agent and signed with the Jaguars. Like in the previous season, he spent most of 2021 on the practice squad until the team called him up full-time late in the year. It has been his most productive season, with a career-high 434 yards and one touchdown.

Despite re-signing in Jacksonville, he found himself on the waiver wire in August, and he joined three different teams throughout the year, spending time with the Patriots, Cardinals, and Seahawks. His only six receptions were with the Seahawks.

The Ravens repeated the practice squad shenanigans in 2023. He played in five contests with the Super Bowl contenders and caught one pass.

Now, with the Colts, his goal must be to earn a spot on the 53-man roster or at least do enough to stick around on the practice squad with occasional reps on gameday.

The Colts employ 11 wideouts.

  1. Michael Pittman Jr.
  2. Josh Downs
  3. Adonai Mitchell
  4. Alec Pierce
  5. Ashton Dulin
  6. Anthony Gould
  7. D.J. Montgomery
  8. Ethan Fernea
  9. Juwann Winfree
  10. Tyrie Cleveland

Treadwell turned 29 in June and has become a true journeyman in the NFL who’s regularly looking for a new job.

The receiver would meet the Vikings in November if he sticks around in Indianapolis.
