The Deepest Positions on the 2024 Vikings Roster

NFL free agency is just a little over a month away.

The Vikings have a number of questions on their plate at a multitude of positions when that period officially arrives. However, there are a couple positions where Minnesota is pretty much set for the 2024 season. Here is a look at the deepest positions on the 2024 Vikings roster.

Safety

Safety is the one of the few spots heading into the offseason where the Vikings feel pretty safe. However, depending on what happens with Harrison Smith and his contract, that could change. Camryn Bynum and Josh Metellus played very well during the 2023 season, but we haven’t seen nearly enough out of Lewis Cine to feel confident that he can be a consistent contributor with the defense.

Still, this is pretty easily the deepest spot on Minnesota’s roster, which is ironic considering their first-round pick at the position is probably the weakest link at this point. The one move they can make to ensure it remains that way is re-signing Theo Jackson.

Wide Receiver

The wide receiver position doesn’t have a ton of proven depth commodities at this point, but it still lands on this list because they have two bonafide stars at the top of the room in Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson.

The duo will take a ton of pressure off whoever lands in the WR3/4 roles this season. However, the Vikings still need to make some moves at this spot seeing as both K.J. Osborn and Brandon Powell are hitting free agency in March.

Cornerback

The cornerback position for the Vikings is deep in the sense that they have a number of different players who reasonably could be contributors in 2024. Akayleb Evans and Byron Murphy played well for the majority of the season while rookie Mekhi Blackmon saw a larger role down the stretch as well.

However, this is still a position that lacks a true CB1, so if that is what you value more, perhaps you’ll have a problem with this position being placed amongst the deeper positions on the Vikings roster.

Running Back

The Vikings have plenty of bodies in their running back room for next season, but can they actually be productive? Minnesota had one of the worst rushing offenses in the league last season. Ty Chandler gave the group a resurgence down the stretch of the 2023 season, and he could very well be the guy who ensures the running game improves next season.

We also have to remember that Minnesota has DeWayne McBride waiting in the wings after being a very prolific RB at the collegiate level with UAB. Perhaps he can get on the field next year and be a stable red zone presence. Still, the Vikings would be smart to look to add another player to this group in the offseason.
