Vikings Make a Roster Change Before the Draft, Waive OT Coy Cronk

The Minnesota Vikings and the rest of the NFL will welcome plenty of young talent in just one week during the 2024 NFL Draft.

However, before the event officially gets underway, the Vikings have decided to make a roster change and waived offensive tackle Coy Cronk with a non-football injury (NFI) designation.

The team announced the news via a tweet which read, “The #Vikings have waived (Non-Football Injury) T Coy Cronk.”

Cronk, 26, split his collegiate years and Indiana (2016-19) and Iowa (2020) before declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft. The offensive lineman went undrafted that spring and was later picked up by the Green Bay Packers.

He would not make Green Bay’s final roster, though, and Cronk was waived prior to the start of the season. Then, the Jacksonville Jaguars opted to sign him to their practice squad that October where he spent the remainder of the season as well as the 2022 season.

Though Cronk did not appear in a game during his rookie season of 2021, he got on the field for three games with the Jaguars in 2022. He totaled six snaps at right tackle for the team and spent the remainder of his snaps on special teams.

Cronk was then waived by Jacksonville in November of the 2023 season, and that was when the Vikings opted to pick him up as an extra depth piece. He would not appear in a game during his time in Minnesota, though.

With the departure of Cronk, the Vikings’ need for offensive tackle depth is only further enhanced. Currently, Minnesota employs their two starters (Christian Darrisaw, Brian O’Neill) and one reserve piece (David Quessenberry).

As a result, it would appear that the offensive tackle position is one that very well could be a target of the Vikings when the draft officially arrives.

The details of Cronk’s injury are unknown.
