Vikings Bye-Ku Week—The Undefeated Version

The Minnesota Vikings are on their annual bye week and have leapt out to a perfect 5-0 record to lead the NFC North Division. Those are great laurels upon which to rest this week. But the Vikings bye week means more than player R and R. For us Purple Faithful, it is time for our annual Vikings Bye-Ku’s—those yearly little ditties about our favorite team set to the rhyme and meter of the ancient poetic form of haikus.

You all recall: three lines with a syllables of five in the first line, seven in the second line and five again in the third. Plus, to make it a little more interesting (and harder to craft) the bye-ku’s must contain some allusion to the natural world. That is the form’s tradition, and one we (try to) match here.

So, check out ours below and send in your own. We’d love to see them.

Go Vikes (and go Vikings Bye-ku writers out there)!

Viking Bye-Ku’s

Vikes are 5 and 0
Beating SB contenders
It’s not a mirage.

Sam D at QB
Rising phoenix from ashes
Jets past Panther past.

JJ hurt, watches
Learns the ropes, biding his time
To hurl bombs one day.

Jones has changed the O
Dual threat the Pack discards
Leaps, smiles, at Lambeau.

North Div. inverted
Purple on top, not bottom
Mountain climb goes on.

JJ, Add, Nailor
Trio catches all passes
Like Venus Flytraps.

Van Gink never sleeps
Picks sixes like Rip grabs winks
Fans’ roar is thunder!

Vikes always start fast
Then stumble out of halftime
Hang on like oak leaves.

Second in sack lead
2 in takeaways, as well
Flo’s D: killer B’s.

Rookie kicker’s hot
Miss a kick yet, he has not.
Don’t fear 9-8 ghosts!

KO C O Y?
Too early to say for sure
Lead to Promised Land!
