Vikings Bring an Old Friend to the Practice Squad Ahead of Week 18

The Minnesota Vikings have just one game left in the regular season, and then, all eyes will likely turn to the upcoming offseason.
However, that has not stopped the Vikings from bringing extra help to the team for Week 18. On Tuesday evening, the Vikings announced that they would bring back an old friend to the practice squad ahead of Week 18. That old friend is LB Abraham Beauplan.

The Vikings announced the decision via a tweet on Tuesday, “The #Vikings have signed LB Abraham Beauplan to the practice squad.”
Beauplan signed with the Vikings as part of their UDFA class this spring, a group which also included players like Andre Carter, Ivan Pace, and NaJee Thompson. Pace has jumped up to a starting role in the defense while Thompson has carved out a niche for himself as the gunner on special teams, and Carter is beginning to earn more snaps with the defense.
However, things did not go as well for Beauplan. After suffering an injury during training camp, the linebacker was placed on IR and waived with an injury designation back in August. He appeared in two preseason games before the injury, playing snaps against the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans.

Now, the linebacker comes back to Minnesota after a season-ending injury to Troy Dye made him the 11th Viking currently on injured reserve. Beauplan, at the very least, could see action on special teams this weekend if he were to be elevated from the practice squad.
Beauplan spent his collegiate years at Marshall. Over three seasons with the Thundering Herd, he put together 231 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, three passes defended, and an interception.
He made the list of Feldman’s freaks prior to the 2022 college football season, and Beauplan’s athletic ability at the linebacker position has made him capable of playing multiple roles on a defense.

The Vikings do have slim hopes of the playoffs going into their Week 18 game against the Detroit Lions, but if things start going poorly, Kevin O’Connell may opt to get some of the reserves into the game before the season comes to a close.
Kickoff between Detroit and Minnesota is scheduled for 12 PM Central inside Ford Field on Sunday, January 7th.
