New Vikings Defender Was “Salty” with New Vikings Quarterback

Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy kisses the championship trophy to celebrate the Wolverines' 34-13 win over Washington in the national championship game at NRG Stadium in Houston on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

Thankfully, they’ve buried the hatchet. Or, at least, Dallas Turner has moved on.

The new Vikings defender played for Alabama in 2023. The semifinals of the College Football Playoffs involved Turner’s Crimson Tide taking on J.J. McCarthy’s Wolverines. Losing to Michigan resulted in the edge rusher being less than pleased with Minnesota’s future QB1: “I’m going to be honest, J.J. definitely hurt my feelings January 1st […] We’re teammates now, after the game I kind of unfollowed him on Instagram, a little salty.”

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah noted the connection.

Before McCarthy hit the podium, Adofo-Mensah mentioned the college playoff game. “I’m sure they’ve had a few minutes to talk about the CFP,” the GM notes, “and how that game went. But we’re glad to have them, the championship pedigree that they come from, the talented players, we’re through the moon we were able to get both of them.”

Those who watched the game will remember that it was an exciting one.

Michigan emerged victorious in overtime by a score of 27-20. McCarthy went 17/27 while tossing for 221 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Turner didn’t fare too poorly on his end. The pass rusher was credited with picking up 3 tackles. He also had a sack and a TFL, so Michigan certainly felt his impact.

In fact, McCarthy confirmed in his press conference that Michigan was worried about Dallas Turner undermining the Wolverines’ efforts.

McCarthy referred to Turner as a “game wrecker” who was “somebody that could affect the game at all times.” “We knew 15 was somebody we were going to have to worry about,” McCarthy explains. Not too long afterwards, the QB describes feeling “blessed” to have Turner on the same team.

Oh, and for whatever it’s worth, Dallas Turner is following his QB again on Instagram (does that matter? I don’t know).

Since both are calling Minnesota home, Turner and McCarthy will be joining forces in an effort to win a Super Bowl, an outcome that would be more confetti than salty.

Both players are just 21.
