In what has become something of an annual tradition in the NFL, fans have spent the past week or so following the draft trying to predict when the 2024 NFL schedule release will take place.

Some had speculated that it would take place as early as this week based on the idea that last year, it took place on Thursday, May 11th. Well, we finally have an answer to that question as the NFL has officially announced the 2024 schedule will be released on Wednesday, May 15th.

Ben Fischer of the Sports Business Journal reported the news on Tuesday evening, tweeting, “NEWS: The full @NFL schedule is currently slated to be released at 8pm ET on May 15, per memo to teams this afternoon from exec Hans Schroeder. Teams had been expecting this week, Thursday. Reason for delay not mentioned in memo.”

The Minnesota Vikings are hoping to rebound from a very difficult 2023 campaign that saw the team finish with a 7-10 record, missing out on a chance at the playoffs. A big reason behind this drop off from their success in 2022 was injuries as a number of starters spent time on injured reserve (Kirk Cousins, Jordan Hicks, Justin Jefferson).

2024 will bring a brand-new look to this Vikings team, though. J.J. McCarthy was selected with the 10th overall pick after Cousins left in free agency while Dallas Turner is hoping to become the latest legendary Vikings pass rusher after Minnesota saw a mass exodus at that position during free agency with all three of Marcus Davenport, Danielle Hunter, and D.J. Wonnum heading elsewhere.

Of course, we already have a bit of an idea as to what Minnesota’s schedule will look like due to the fact that each of their 17 opponents have been known since the conclusion of the 2023 regular season in January.

Minnesota’s nine home games this year are against Arizona, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, Houston, Indianapolis, NY Jets, and San Francisco. Meanwhile, their eight road games are against Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, Jacksonville, LA Rams, NY Giants, Seattle, and Tennessee.

The Vikings have nine home games compared to only eight road games on their schedule after the opposite took place back in 2023. However, Minnesota is also slated to be the “home” team for an international game in London this fall. The week and opponent for that game remain unclear as of now.
