Former Vikings CB Continues Winding Football Journey by Signing with UFL Team

In the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings hoped that they had found a young CB to fill their needs in the secondary by selecting Cam Dantzler.
Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out for Dantzler with the Vikings, in part due to some injury troubles during the end of his tenure. He was cut following the 2022 season, and since then, it has been a long, winding road for the former Vikings CB.
The latest step in that journey now includes a stop at the UFL level as Dantzler will be signing with the San Antonio Brahmas.
Former Vikings CB Heads to the UFL
James Larsen of Pro Football Newsroom reported the signing, “BREAKING: The San Antonio Brahmas have signed DB Cameron Dantzler. Dantzler needs no introduction, having been an NFL starter with the Minnesota Vikings for a couple of years. Just a tremendous pickup for this @XFLBrahmas secondary. #UFL”
Dantzler burst onto the scene in his rookie NFL year by being a player forced to step up into a major role after Minnesota suffered a number of injuries in their secondary. He started 10 games and appeared in 11 for the Vikings during 2020, recording 46 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 4 pass defenses, 2 interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
2021 was a down-year for the CB. He started only seven games during that season, recording 53 tackles, 8 pass defenses, and a forced fumble. However, he was back to being a usual starter at the beginning of the 2022 season in Kevin O’Connell’s first year as head coach.
However, an ankle injury suffered against the Washington Commanders landed him on injured reserve in the middle of the season.
He missed four games due to this injury, and in his first start back from IR, he gave up two touchdowns in Minnesota’s loss to the Detroit Lions. After that, Dantzler didn’t start again for the Vikings, opening up the possibility that he could be off the roster following the season’s end.
Since his time in Minnesota came to an end, Dantzler has had stints with the Washington Commanders, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, and New Orleans Saints. He appeared in two games with the Saints during the 2023 season.
Dantzler now heads to a Brahmas squad that has gone 2-0 through the first two weeks of the UFL season. They will take on the St. Louis Battlehawks this weekend on Sunday, April 14th.
