Back in November while the Vikings were shuffling their roster around, Minnesota made the decision to release WR Dan Chisena.

Primarily a special teamer, Chisena had been with the Vikings since signing as an undrafted free agent back in 2020. Now, the former Vikings WR is set to sign a reserve/future contract with the Arizona Cardinals, the team that he concluded the 2023 regular season with.

Darren Urban wrote on the Cardinals’ team website, “Dan Chisena was signed to a future contract on Tuesday, after spending time on both the practice squad and (briefly) the active roster late in the season for the team. After the regular season ended, Chisena signed with the Ravens’ practice squad and played in both of Baltimore’s playoff games.”

Chisena, who will turn 27 years old later this month, spent his collegiate years with the Penn State Nittany Lions where he refined his special teams craft. He recorded just three receptions for 66 yards in his collegiate career, all three of which came during his final season in 2019.

During his three-plus seasons in Minnesota, Chisena played 27 games and recorded 11 tackles. In 2020 and 2021, he played over 200 special teams snaps with the Vikings, but he appeared in just two games during the 2022 campaign.

The WR signed with Pittsburgh last January, but he was released at the conclusion of training camp and preseason, thus allowing for a reunion with the Vikings in October before being released again and heading to Arizona.

With the Cardinals in 2023, he played in four games and appeared in 53 special teams snaps and one single snap with the offense. He then headed to Baltimore for the playoffs and appeared in each of their playoff games on special teams, recording three tackles.

Now, Chisena heads back to Arizona to help rejuvenate a team that finished the 2023 season with a 4-13 record for a second consecutive year.

The wide receiver joins a WR room in Arizona that currently has Daniel Arias, Andre Baccellia, Kaden Davis, Rondale Moore, Zach Pascal, Jeff Smith, and Michael Wilson under contract for 2024. Marquise Brown is a notable free agenct from the Cardinals WR group.
